Post a photo of the last thing you made

I have recently built a bed for my son. I have only used few screws to support the glue line of secondary rails( slays support). The sides are connected to headboard and footboard with hidden dovetails and locked with wedges.

Decorating V painting kids bedroom furniture

Thank you for the reply. TBH I have changed the base to traditional slats. I look forward for the first use of it.

Decorating V painting kids bedroom furniture

Hi there I have a unusual rebellion from my 6 years old son. I love the natural look of wood. Currently I am in process of making a single bed for my youngest son. He is demanding to have a green, blue and red bed. He thinks the natural look of wood is too dull and not interesting...

    Rob Cosman's winding sticks

My first sticks were made from one piece as well. But they moved in different areas. I will try to salvage them again.

    Scrub plane for trueing stock

That’s exactly the reason. Shaving 8 mm on each face of the wood needs some aggression.

    Scrub plane for trueing stock

Please somebody correct me if I am wrong. My understanding is that to take cupping out one has to plain cross the grains on the cupped side. The cross grain plaining is called traversing. Here is my winding sticks test.

    Scrub plane for trueing stock

Did you traverse with no 6 or just plained with grains?

    Scrub plane for trueing stock

I have photo of the only remaining slab. It is truly cupped. I done the rest with my no 5 plane but it was plugging up regularly.

    Scrub plane for trueing stock

I am making a headboard for the bed. Need to edge join them ASAP. It’s the first hand dimensioning for me. Although it was a challenge but I enjoyed it. I might make a camber on the cutting iron and get a spare cutting iron for smoothening.

    Scrub plane for trueing stock

Thank you for your generous offer. I will take one of those planes off your hand. I live on Ashbourne road.

    Scrub plane for trueing stock

I managed to flatten three of planks and take the twist out. I have a true face and both edges are square but it was a time consuming task. Online clips are 30 minutes and I was expecting to do in 60-90 minutes but it took much longer for each board. And I still have to get them down to the...

    Scrub plane for trueing stock

The planks are for hardboard of a bed. So I am going to rip them down to 30 cm and edge join them. I tried a 80 grit sand papers but ripped the paper with less the 0.5 mm taken off the cutting iron edge.

    Scrub plane for trueing stock

Hi all experienced woodworkers I am pretty new to wood working. My first project was my work bench. It was an amazing experience. Now I have the first bunch of my stock arrived. I wanted to prepare them by hand ( learning on the job). My planks are 1000 mm by 320 mm by 53 mm. There is some...

    Another Paul Sellers design workbench

After many ups and downs and drawbacks finally I assembled my workbench without a vise. You might remember how my home made vise project failed due to bends in screws. I have to re-make it. Hopefully this time the stable working base will help me get it to better finish. Currently I m using...

    Measuring aids maintenance

I have been doing the same. Kept the tools in my filling cabinet. The hearing for garage is an issue for me. I use a fan heater (2000 W). By the time the garage heated up its time to go home ( I only get an hour or two man Kaveh time if lucky). I was interested to see what people use to keep...

I believe the reference 1kg and 1m are kept like that.

    Measuring aids maintenance

Hi Bodgers It was mentioned when talking about squares to keep them from temperature change in the garage and also on my winding sticks. Both reasons seems plausible. My assumption was that temperature changes on metal are not permanent. Also I was under impression that wood will be stable...

    Measuring aids maintenance

Recently on the forum I read “you keep your precision square in a dry and warm environment and not the garage”. Yesterday someone advises me to keep my home made winding sticks in a dry and warm room and not in the garage. 1- which tool or jigs would you keep in your room instead of garage...

    How square is your square

Very good observation from you. I have to admit. It was on the table as I was testing it out at the same time. I have two rubbish ones which can be used for kids to play with and leave mine alone. Although I have a reasonable one as well.
