    Bandsaw and PT advice

I have seen couple of different PT on the Facebook groups. Do they worth the money or are they another copy of cloned ones?

    Tablesaw and Dust

I finally plugged my table saw in and turned it on. Poor machine must have been sitting there for more than 5-6 months. It was smooth and much quieter than I expected. I rip cut five 20” pieces to make some small boxes. Outcome was good and it only took me about five minutes. I had already...

    Using tree roots for woodworking

Hi I was reading about a traditional method of woodworking in Kurdistan. They make very beautiful backgammon boards. They claim walnut roots are the best wood for the board making. Has anybody here used roots for woodworking?

Post a photo of the last thing you made

Another small project completed. I built myself a plane cabinet. Joined with dovetail joints. Back board is pine, shelves are made out of pine. The groves for the shelves have a fine sloop backward. Finished with boiled linseed oil. Hung from wall with cleats.

    French Cleats

I finally used the Cleat ( French or Split Cleat ) for the first time. There were lessons to learn. 1- it was very easy to level the cleats on the wall and hang the tool racks 2- it will work better with a smoother wall ( I hung it on brick wall and it was not as straight as I assumed. 3- it...

    Bandsaw and PT advice

Thank you for all your opinions. So far all the stock I bought from timber yard have proven to be not true by any imagination. It might be down to the change in environment and effect of ripping and planing. In a recent project there was such a cupping in the stock that I had to take 8 mm off...

    Bandsaw and PT advice

Hi I am going to list my tools and then ask the question. I have a small single garage as a workshop. Tools wise I have two combidrills, a jigsaw and circularsaw leftover from my loft boarding. For my woodworking I built my own workbench and a Moxon vise. I have some clamps( never enough...

    French Cleats

I have to admit my lack of experience but on my day job I don’t trust even 6-8 screws with 30 mm grip to bear the weight of a person. I might be over cautious. Point applied pressure is related to mass and contact surface. As the contact surface is very little in 5 mm screws then the pressure...

    French Cleats

I was worried 2-4 screws in softwood may not be strong enough. I looks around to find any hardware to use but didn’t find the cabinet hangings very attractive. There was a post from 2014 on the forum which suggested using cleats as a strong fixture.

    French Cleats

That’s right. I bevel ripped it down to 30*20 mm. I took the size from Paul Selllers’ clip. Having said that his wall shelf was much smaller and lighter.

    French Cleats

Hi there I have built a new wall cabinet for my planes and some tools. When it came to fixing it to the wall I had no idea how to fix it. After some searching and reading I saw a post here about French Cleats. It is my first time using this method of hanging stuff. Is a 20*50 mm European pine...

    Ivory

Well, would all these changes mean that a small piece of old ivory up cycled as an inlays , will be illegal to have?

    Ivory

Thank you for the advice. It was mainly to learn more about the law around it. I am always curious to experiment different techniques as part of my projects and learn this way. I was going to use it for inlays. But I will try Tagua Nut first. Ta

    Ivory

Hi there I don’t have Ivory but wondering if the old Ivories from broken up cycling piano can be traded? I was trying to buy couple of piano keytops ( old ones are made out of Ivory ) but was told it is illegal to trade in Ivory. Uncle google thinks it’s fine if it was built before 1947. Cheers
