Went to the woodworking show, Harrogate a second hand stall was selling a 100mm XY vice or compound vice Knocked him down to £15 as I don't have one thought it may come in handy when using the pillar drill - since then everything get tightened to the vice; a little left a little right back...

    Best sellers at craft shows

Not had a good year in my production due to family commitments but had a play - just recently had a run around the church fairs (tables at £5 to £7) to sell some pieces - I made 20 silver birch boxes on the bandsaw all sold - numerous tea lights both turned and salvaged wood some I thought...

    Beech work top finish

Hi my daughter has just moved house, this one has what looks to be a thick Beech Island work top with an inset sink ! no drainer. Just wondering if others could give me some pointers on how to treat the wood top to help stop the water marks. My advice so far don't mix water with wood worktops...

Quiz time - what three wood have been used - answers Fri.

Top to bottom - Magnolia (early season big white flowers) - Yew - Cherry (flowering type). All sourced from neighbours but only when they had been cut to wood burner sized logs but took them anyway. Not too good an angle for the tea lights but the base is quite heavy to give more stability -...

    replacement Makita batterys

A subject I have very little experience in - Replacement batteries (PA14; 14.4volt). One of my battery packs for Makita Drill has failed not bad after 15/16 years. I would like a new battery but since they are both pretty old will replace both - The double drill pack cost £79 15 years ago -...

    Does anyone cover their lathe?

Hi Sploo - I have had a good result in my 6m x 6m workshop come garage by increasing the ventilation - sound greedy but my other double garage equally enclosed never suffers condensation this I put down to the central heating boiler being there. So its a cross between ventilation or...

    Does anyone cover their lathe?

My workshop come van garage is not heated so all the iron topped equipment are covered with sheets which now stops condensation forming - for some reason I have most condensation forming on the tyres of the vehicle - they do say that the good ventilation is necessary to prevent condensation...

    LED batten lights

My vote is for the LED lights - just replace 2 out of 4 5ft florescent units for industrial type LED tubes and what a difference. Light is instant and brighter and the two remaining tubes seem to take an age to strike up and give out sufficient light. Since these two were gifts I am looking...
