    Making an oar, longer

Yeah ive been down the wye a few times, from Ross on wye downwards, but ive been recommended to start at Hay for the full experience, few days with camping. Dreamy, definitely first on the list once im allowed. And theres some nice stretches on the avon, and id be interested to try and explore...

    Making an oar, longer

Aha, yeah i had noticed they all have flat, flaired tops, including in my drawings. No matter, i have the flair, just need to flatten them.

Unexpected issue with attaching chainsaw to a mill

If you go down that route and only have the electric saw, make sure you get something compatible with it. I havent tried to change the chain or bar on that one yet but i dont think it takes standard things

    Making an oar, longer

I didnt realise the distinction, but i guess oars sounds grander than paddles in my head! So, I spent part of the day making paddles, or rather trying to direct housemate how to, despite having no idea myself... I can confirm they did not look like this because we got both nearly done in a...

    Making an oar, longer

Great stuff, as usual everyone... I hadn't considered putting the join at the top end, but that does make sense, as its the bottom hand which is close to the spoon that does all the main pulling. Plus then i can still add a nice contrasting bit of wood for show-off points. It is indeed just...

Finally got my bandsaw working properly!

ah, the old 150mm kerf jig, a system of pulleys and bearings that send the blade zigzagging down across a span of 150mm... what could go wrong

    Making an oar, longer

I have used this quiet time to do something ive wanted to do for ages, and i have just finished it - a stitch and tape canoe! Maybe ill post on that seperately. Anyway all thats left to do is make a pair of oars. I have some nice ash boards i milled myself, thing is they are are about a foot...

Unexpected issue with attaching chainsaw to a mill

I nearly have this issue when using an electric chainsaw to mill (I use an Oregon i got on offer at screwfix when at my workshop, its not quite as fast but its much easier on the neighbours and it has a clever shelf sharpening mechanism) The pad just fits on the bar without interfering with the...

    Wine making -elderflower

Elderflower champagne can be absolutely exquisite, and pretty boozy! I more or less always use variations on this recipe. Careful though, i find it doesnt keep too well, i made 200L of it one year to take to glastonbury to dish out to friends and crew, and ended up with a fair bit left over...

Finally got my bandsaw working properly!

I think I recently also managed to get on top of mine, finally, a sweet and hard won victory after much swearing, does take longer than one would like to get it in the sweet spot, and im still a bit mystified sharpening the blades (with a dremel) turned out to be what made all the difference...

Brief review of Triton TPL 180 big hand-held planer.

Well following this thread i panic bought myself one of these today! Very much looking forward to never using a router sled again, so much noise and dust and vibratory nerve damage. Ive been milling timber with a chainsaw mill i was given a couple of years ago, more for the pleasure of the...

Router milling setup might solve your problem, if you have a router... very useful for flattening awkwardly long, heavy, twisted or wide things.

    Rutlands dowel jig

Does anyone have or use this? Got a project that involves framing lots of 2x2, would be sped up considerably if this produces good results... Ive also found a slightly cheaper version on ebay that looks to be the same except different its a different colour, and the knobs are slightly less nice...
