    Tiny home on wheels

Im planning to build a caravan/tiny house/shepherds hut over the summer. Its more in the style of the US 'tiny house' (although theirs are hardly ever anything even approaching tiny) than a shepherds hut, mainly in that I am going to live in it at least half of the time. Im having a custom...

    Nice sunday viewing

Was sent this video today by a boat builder friend, it mainly features a current colleague of his. Makes for nice a nice slow watch... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NtQDbJXh1oY&app=desktop

    Mounting glass roof

Ive got a job coming up to build a cover over an alleyway (almost typed back passage) out the back of someone's house. They would like it made from wood and to have glass overhead, as it leads to their back door and kitchen and they dont want it to get too gloomy. I was thinking maybe...

    Workshop air filter

I did quite a lot of research on this, there's a bit of consideration needed to match the fan with panel filters because of the various resistances of the filters and the amount of air moved by a decent sized fan and the pressures built up. Then by the time youve built a box with a couple of...

    Ultex diamond stones offer

didnt mean to start any fisticuffs, just point out a decent deal! I have a couple of the thin ones you talk of as well ED65, 2000 and 3000, stuck down to a bit of granite worktop from the stone masons skip round the corner. Handy, that skip. Dont often remember (or need) to use them though...

    Ultex diamond stones offer

Ah, ok then! How embarrassing (hammer) I suppose I was duped because these are the same format (8 x 3, thick plate) as the more expensive ones. Either way, cheap arent they... ! :D

    Ultex diamond stones offer

Following a recent discussion of diamond stones, I was browsing the options. As usual when researching this sort of thing, google searches tended to bring me back here. Found a thread on Ultex diamond stones, seemed fairly favourably reviewed. I then found them going for silly money at ITS...

What to make out of old T&G solid oak flooring?

I made a boiler cupboard for some friends once out of old TnG oak flooring, one of the first proper self employed jobs I did. I was quite pleased with it. As others have said, i think its best to wait for the right project to come about, or youll wish you still had them when it does... sounds...

    Long driver bits

at car boots I have found a few of these sorts of things in various sizes, usually with more grub screws, which would be better presumably, yet to find an excuse to use one though https://www.toolfastdirect.co.uk/acatal ... gLHHfD_BwE

Post a photo of the last thing you made

Bit of a mad, arty experiment. Huge end grain yew bowl, still a couple of coats to go before it'll be completely even. Note the captive bit of oak, wonder how old that is!

    Yew endgrain finish

Wow lovely chair that :) Thats good to know, ill let it dry and keep layering up with thin coats until its consistent. The grain colour and texture is already lovely so its great to think itll just get better and better. Thanks custard

Do diamond grit sharpening stones wear out?

How hard is too hard? I guess that's hard to quantify. I dont feel like I put crazy amounts of pressure down, I do that intentionally when stropping. The axe/drawknifes are literally just once or twice. I blame the stones. (hammer)

    Yew endgrain finish

How do. I realised yesterday, I know very little about the world of finishing. I have carved (rather than turned) a yew bowl out of end grain, quite difficult but after scraping and sanding and an initial finish layer, its nearly there. I applied first a thick coat of osmo, let it soak in...

Do diamond grit sharpening stones wear out?

Ive also been meaning to ask a similar question, in the last couple of years I have had two axminster rider double sided stones, 400 and 1000 grit, and both have started to show bald patches after 6 months medium duty use. Is it the quality of the stones or my technique thats doing this, or...

Peace of mind re: asbestos roof

Great, thanks for the speedy advice all. Think ill turn my attention to the rest of the dust problems! Probably more dangerous by the sounds of it. Will line the ceiling if/when resources allow and thatll be that. Shame the rest of the walls (internal and external) are so holey, probably not...

Peace of mind re: asbestos roof

My current workshop is one of a bunch of units on what was an old farm. Im on the upper floor of one of the buildings, and the roof is made of corrugated cement(?) sheet which my landlord assures me only contains very low concentrations of asbestos. The internet is a scary place when looking...

    Sharpening your own saw blades

Apologies if there is a thread on this but a quick search only seemed to cover getting them done. Does anyone sharpen their own TCT saw blades? Seems to me that if you can do it efficiently then any equipment needed to do so would quickly pay for itself... Ive seen a few videos of people...

    making drawers for the workbench

Ill second that, having put some very wide shallow drawers under my bench for the things I use the most. Great for workflow but one of them is very jammy, because its not very square. Either that or all the planes that ended up in it.
