    Workshop flooring ideas?

So I have built my own workshop (mikes way). Im starting to think what floor options I should use? The frame is sitting on a single course of blue engineering bricks that sit on a concrete base. I was going to put dpm down first (even though there is dpm under the concrete base) then put 50mm...

    Workshop layout help/advice?

Thankyou to all that have replied. I think I will take the advice on more sockets. Like 1 every meter that was stated. Im not sure on hanging sockets but im defo going to look into it. I just think it might be a bit overkill as its only a small workshop, but I do like the sound of a retractable...

Best method/technique in fixing tongue and groove cladding?

I am currently building my own workshop in my garden. I am now at the cladding part. Before I start cladding I would like to know what the best method of fixing it to the wall would be. I have built the worshop following mikes way on another thread so from inside I have the 11mm osb, 2x4 studs...

What nails and what spacing for 18mm osb roof boards?

What nails would you reccomend for nailing 18mm osb to 2x6 rafters at 16 centres. Also what spacing between nails would be adequate per rafter line? I was thinking 65mm galvanised nails at 200mm spacing. Dont really want to go annular ring shank if I can help it as they are more expensive and...

Fixing down soleplates to a single brick course?

I do like this idea the best tbh. I agree I was worried about causing damp problems drill into the soleplate and the brick. Couple things though. If I was to screw the l bracket to the vertical stud then when I put the osb wall board on at the end it wont sit flush will it because of the...

Fixing down soleplates to a single brick course?

Not quite sure what you mean. Have you got your steel band going the length of your soleplate. It so wouldnt the studs be getting in the way. Or have you gone over the soleplate width ways on both sides and fixed to the side of the bricks. Thanks

Fixing down soleplates to a single brick course?

What are the best ways to secure soleplates down to a single brick course on a concrete base? I wanted to just screw straight down and fix to the brick but that will pierce the DPC I'm putting between the soleplateand the brick course. Is it really that bad that I may pierce it in places as I'm...

    16" or 24" centres for 2x6 rafters?

Ill be using c16 as my timber yeard does not stock c24 i dont think, but will check i think i will be on the lower load limit im pretty sure as it hardly snows where I am in derby. Mayby one heavy snow a year if even that 😂 . But I will definetly look up 16 inch centres to see if the pricing...

    16" or 24" centres for 2x6 rafters?

@jamess They would going front to back if that makes sense. So the rafters would be just over 10ft long each and going from left to right along the 17ft length. Are you saying that 2x6 are not big enough. Theres me stepping them up from 2x4 lol. What about 2x8 Are you definetly sure 2x6 are...

    16" or 24" centres for 2x6 rafters?

What would be the best centres to use for 2x6 rafters on a 10'x17' foot single sloped roof for a garden building. I'm wanting to do 24" centres. Will they be sufficient enough or should I do 16" centres. any reasoning for this would be appreciated too. Thanks 😀👍

Counter battons for air gap on workshop build?

When it comes to buying the material for the counter battons for the air gap on the shed walls, can I get away with using untreated timber or should I use treated. These will be fixed to the studs then the 19mm shiplap im using fixed to the battons. Im following mikes shed build from another...

What thickness cladding should I use?

Great build there @eribaMotters. This is what I aspire mine to be like tbh lol. Just a few questions if you dont mind me asking. * What roof pitch did you to for the roof and how high did you go for the top plate of the walls? * What did you use for the trim around the doors, windows, conrers...

What thickness cladding should I use?

. good looking build there. I like the rustic look. Those feather edge boards look huge and fresh of the mill lol. Have they got live edge on them too. Are they the 32mm like mike suggested? How easy was the pvc windows to fit as im thinking putting in a pvc door and window.

What thickness cladding should I use?

Yes you are rite. The air gap is about 23mm and I will leave about the same top and bottom

What thickness cladding should I use?

I'm guessing that is finished thickness at 16 as I'm surprised when you read 16mm then read finished measurements and it's about 4mm thinner haha Yes you are correct. 175x32 lapped at 25 it says. Its just I thought shiplap was classed as better than feather edge. Though in Mike's diagram the...

What thickness cladding should I use?

Hey. I'm designing and building my own shed/workshop. I'm doing it Mike's way (based on another thread on here). I'm designing it through sketchup currently and am at the point of putting in the cladding. I'm stuck at what thickness to use. I have heard no less than 12mm. Is that right...

Questions on how to build a shed mikes way?

May sound a stupid question but how would I go about applying this band. First time I've heard of these as I'm just a diyer lol. I take it you cut bits to suit size needed with a angle grinder mayby. Then would I just strap it over the soleplate and brick and fix into the concrete either side...
