Is there any trick to make unscrewing easier from old wood?

Heat a metal rod to red hot, apply to screw head. Use a good screwdriver and it will usually move!

    AVO meter repairs.

Two thoughts, firstly check that the glass is still correctly in place, the ’adhesive’ that holds it in place gets brittle and I have had some where the glass had dropped trapping the needle. This can be corrected by careful application of silicone sealant with a sharpened match stick and using...

2nd hand tenon saw - write off or salvageable?

The teeth need topping. This is done in stages with a flat file along the blade. Cut down a few strokes and then recut each tooth until you have a level blade. Having the file inserted in a block of hardwood helps. Good eyesight needed!

Anybody have any idea what species of wood this is?

Afrimosa perhaps. Used years back as a teak alternative. Darkens with age and had the white ‘filling’ in it from memory.

    Wood worktop problem

Obviously it can happen (and did !) and yes they can fall back on the ‘natural material’ explanation. I would hope that they would replace it pdq to protect from reputational damage. Perhaps mention how keen you are to share this awful example of customer service on all the social media platforms!!

    Concrete Shed Base Problems

One or two courses of engineering bricks would enable you to sort it, to construct the shed. Then you can level the floor with taper beams, or just live with the floor out of level. I doubt you would even notice it in use.

Very micro hydro - how to

It’s a lovely idea, but I think you will be up against the laws of physics. Head will be more important than flow, but you need both. Allowing for low efficiency generation, transmission losses, conversion and battery charging losses. I think you will struggle for mWs….but I would love to be...

It never has been, it is ‘self smoothing’ ….if mixed correctly AND the subfloor is correctly primed.

Stripping an old yellow 'CCFS' scrollsaw for a clean - Holy Moly!

A couple of thoughts, if the bearings are in a blind hole then I understand that they can be moved by packing with grease and driving a tight fitting rod into the centre hole, effectively using hydraulic ‘shock’ to shift them. for the air bag, would you be able to adapt a door lifting air bag...

    New thickness planer tripping electrics

I read that you say you are sending it back so you may not want to do any more. It would be diagnostic / interesting to know if it was tripping the 16amp MCB (the middle black ‘switch’) or the RCD (extreme right) …..they have different functions and are tripped by different ‘faults’.

    Speaker renovation

Important starting point. Solid wood or veneer? Your comment ‘perhaps some silicone based polish’ brings a cold chill to the heart! Silicone is a nightmare in the world of wood finishing. Investigate ‘fish eye’ defects in polishes.

    Strange Chair

Yes - strangely I also know those as nursing chairs. Indeed if you Google ‘antique nursing chair’ you will find that they mostly have little legs, giving a very low seat height.
