    Boiler problems.

There are two types of Honeywell valve heads. The changeable ones have a embosed pimple on the top of the silver motor cover; the non-changeable ones (without a system drain down) do not have the pimple. DO NOT GET THEM CONFUSED as it can get very messy!

    The Dog House

So very true here as well only the dogs AND the AGA are involved. Guess who pays the gas bill! 😬

Energy bills dated end of December 2022

Period 16/11/22 - 15/12/22 Gas £308.85 Leccy £74.59 3 Bed bungalow with EPC rating C. Mind we do have a gas fired AGA which warms the kitchen/dining area and dries the clothes with an ceiling mounted airing rack. Also PV solar panels which do very little at this time of year.

Anyone had a new oil boiler installed recently?

Indeed. I was wondering why folk kept referring to having their gas boiler replaced when the thread title specifically mentioned oil.

    Hydro power from small river?

I don't think you can bring pressure into the equation when dealing with an open river/stream as any restriction placed in the flow (a turbine generator) will cause the flow to be diverted around said restriction into the surrounding waterway. I seem to remember that, in the Youtube series...

    Hydro power from small river?

Be very careful with this. A chap on a forum I follow has been involved on the edge of such an installation in place of an oil boiler to serve a large country house converted into flats using a very large lake as the heat source and costing over £250k. The system does not work and the poor...

    Hydro power from small river?

Correct. You are not even allowed to extract water from a well on your property without an extraction licence.

    plumbing

We are talking about Housing Association properties here where the overriding factor in all things is cost. Lagging will only delay the freezing not prevent it all together as it will eventually reach the surrounding air temperature. I have been to properties that have been fully lagged but...

    plumbing

From the stopcock in the cupboard is there only one pipe rising upwards to above (serving the boiler and bathroom) or is there a branch after the s/c that runs to serve the kitchen tap? If the latter then that branch is frozen somewhere. If the former then a cold branch must drop down...

CH Circulation pump (?) fault diagnosis

Had a couple of Grundfos let go but, as you say, the Wilos are known for it.

CH Circulation pump (?) fault diagnosis

That gizmo only tell you that the motor shaft is turning. It does not tell you whether the impeller has become detached from the motor shaft.

    Heating thermostat in the hallway

Can I ask your thoughts on the fact that any surrounding connected rooms adjacent to the bedroom will loose heat quicker by transfer through the internal walls/ceilings owing to the increased ▲t thereby causing the temperature in said rooms to drop accordingly. This temperature drop will require...
