Cleaning old dirty brass clock movement

Sounds like an ideal job for Steve in The Repair Shop particularly bearing in mind the date of 1930 and the fact your grandad made the clock. ;)

    Loctite 55 pipe sealing tape.

This would be my choice assuming you are using steel pipe with taper threads.

    Loctite 55 pipe sealing tape.

Exactly that. I have used many miles of it during my working life as it is suitable for potable water AND gas (which was my main use). Not cheap compared with PTFE tape but worth every penny!

    Loctite 55 pipe sealing tape.

Before using the Loctite 55 thread (best stuff since sliced bread!) you need to rough up the tops of the threads for the thread to grab on to. I used to do this with a pair of water pump pliers just squeezed enough to indent the tops of the threads. Then wrap the tape around the thread. You...

    Flexible Tap connectors

Most of the failures on these are caused by poor installation particularly with regard to the bending radius or damage to the braided covering. I fancy the ones used on car brakes and aircraft are a lot more robust that those cheapo ones sold by DIY sheds. Personally I would never use them but...

    Optimising hot water schedule

The whole system with all rads on is balanced correctly to start with. Once this is done then rads can be turned off as required. If the system is balanced with rads turned off then, should those rads needs to be turned on again the whole system will be thrown out of balance. At least that is...
