Record Half-nut odd problem and solution.

It's always good when people post this sort of thing, Thank you. The '60sand 70's were the nadir for quality control at Record and Stanley as the diy era took off and they chased volume and cheapened products. I was given a Stanley No4 plane for my 21st by my sister and could never get it to...

What woodworking did you do today?

Sharpened seven pencils - the wife has them all around the house, uses them until the lead is flush with the wood but never sharpens one :)

    Made or Built

Certainly agree with the trust point. I have a "Felder" bandsaw which is actually made in Italy rather than Austria and not by Felder, but I knew that when I bought it and it is a high quality product and the felder people were quite open about it, but one couls argue that the badging is...

    More hog

I have done something similar but with an entrance only at one end. We have many hogs visiting. Cats can be a problem, particularly if the cat has at any time been feral. This teaches them to make every effort to access food and eat it even if they are not hungry. We had one which would...

    Sharpening Forstner bits/

Forstner bits should always be sharpened on the bevel, never on the outrside. I have found the best thing is a small drum sander in a pillar drill and various grades of emery paper, but there are lots of possible options using diamond tools and polishing pads in dremel type tools which should...

Post a photo of the last thing you made

Very nice design. I too think it fits well outside, but those slots in the legs will quickly become insect homes. Nothing wrong with that but it will spoil the clean look. Is the top solid or are they gaps in that too? Has it any finish on it? Either way, I think its cool clean look would...

    Ironwood?

Common names are an absolute nightmare. When people migrated from one country (or continent) to another they looked at local species and often named it after something similar with which they were already familliar. Hence the use around the world of the same name for superficially similar but...

    Twisted

No lathe of any description and very limited turning experience in eithe wood or metal, so this is not for me, but always fascinating to see such great work being doen. Thank you for posting. Jim

Machinery Advice - Spindle Moulder/Tenoner and Bandsaw or Table Saw

Table saws, especially those with sliding tables gobble huge amounts of space so I would go with a good quality bandsaw every time unless you will be using a lot of sheet material. For more occasional use a track saw/rail will do all you want with very little investment in space. I assume you...

    SCM Super Router Refurbishment

New to me but always enjoy your threads. Perhaps the reason they are so cheap is the 3 phase power requirement and for many jobs people would think first of a spindle moulder as an alternative to a router/table combination? Jim

Makita benchtop thicknesser dust collection issue

I'm sure the others are right but it's hard to see what the purpose of the gap might be. As an interim measure I would experiment with some thick flexible plastic and double sided tape to close the gap. Jim

Sedgwick MB Planer Thicknesser Full Refurbishment

My Swedish Moretens P/T (great machine with some very clever ideas) has this black aluminium extrusion Height controlled by this Bristol lever locking int0 a slot on the front panel It has nibbled the powder coating a bit but is a very smooth and effective design. Jim

Sedgwick MB Planer Thicknesser Full Refurbishment

Hi Deema and Sideways, Always enjoy your threads. As a non-engineer the depth of your skills really shines through as does your thoroughness, not less your willingness to improve on what the maker did in the first place if you do not consider good enough. Speaking of which, something I have...

Malita mitre saw soft start installation

Thanks Brian, I have now done my Makita, I will have nothing to do with Amazon so got the module from ebay here Soft Start Module Softstart for Maschinen Electric Tool 230V To 20A (3036) | eBay. I couldn't be bothered taking the machine apart to find a hiding place inside so went to my...

    Another two chessboards.

Reminds me of the first piece of furniture I made on a 5 day course at West Dean - a coffee table in brown oak. Last day, frame made and glued up, buttons made to secure the top . Laid the top on the bench and frame on top of that, screws in buttons to mark the screw positions in top, Whacked...

    Another two chessboards.

I particularly like the second with the raised squares, makes a change from the norm. Jim

Malita mitre saw soft start installation

Yes, that description also fits the Makita perfectly. I like your idea of fitting it in an inline box in the cable, a lot less faff than taking the saw apart although I am sure there is a ready made space for it in there given that the US version has soft start. Such helpful people on here...

Malita mitre saw soft start installation

Thanks, Pete, it's 230v and the module is said to have the sme rating so should be OK. The trouble is I am no electrician so would need pretty ***** proof instructions on how to instal it. Linus, I would be very interested to hear how easy or otherwise it proves to be. Jim
