Yes, I feel the same and every now and then you can find something that isn't readily availale elswhere and is exactly what you need. Jim

What did you do in your workshop today ?

It could be worse. Although not myself a boaty person I live in a very boaty area and it is noticeable that any product that has "marine" in front of its name automatically costs 50% more. Jim

External iroko - Osmo UV Oil or Sikkens Cetol Filter 7 Plus

A really interesting and useful thread which I had not spotted until now. The performance of the Skkens product doesn't surprise me at all. The painter and decorator who I have used for painting my house for many years was a dedicated Dulux system man but switched to Sikkens products about...

Bringing old oak door back to life

Steel and oak are not good bedfellows so a good long lasting finish on the steel is as important as that on the oak. I would Galvafroid any bare steel before painting it. Jim

Thanks Robin, that's useful to know. Jim

How often do you need to burnish or dress a cabinet scraper?

+1 for the Workshop Heaven burnisher. If the cabinet (card is American) scraper is properly prepared this will create a lovely sharp hook in two diagonal strokes - one with the scraper flat on the edge of the bench to pull the metal up and the second with scraper vertical in the vice with the...

    Window wood?

Accoya is claimed not to be subject to seasonal movement like natural timber so, at least theoretically, paint should be less likely to crack at the joints and so last longer. Does anyone know whether the theory is borne out in practice? Jim

Sounds a bit too hairy for my liking. Glad you had the good sense to wear a visor. Jim

What did you do in your workshop today ?

Chipped the dried Cascamite off the laundry bin I glued up yesterday. It has 20 vertical slats, so 40 joints, hence the need to use Cascamite for the long open time - would have been a nightmare glue up with anything else. Luckily the wife wasn't over enthusiastic with the glue so not too much...

Are Festool Router (and tools) really worth the money?

I have a DW625 which is a good workhorse, plus the FESTOOL 2200 which as Tim says, is really superb for smoothness, stability and dust extraction. People often say that for fine handwork you need a small router but I find the big Festool is better. It is highly adjustable and the the mass and...

What tool did you buy today?

Fab!.. and you got two bolt down met-posts as an accessory. Jim

    Heads up on Axminster pricing

I miss the catalogue too. Can't help thinking it will cause some loss of sales. Can't say I've noticed the price increases but I bought the mid size Festool workshhop vac a few months back and it was way cheaper than I could find elsewhere including Europe. Last week I went to the Basingstoke...

    WIP - my first plane!

Hi Andy, Congratulations, it looks great. I am well endowed with patience but not for making tools as I have so many things I want to do with toolls, but I'm full of admiration for those who take the plunge and make a good fist of it, even more so having recently spent a morning with Phil...
