    How to fit drawer fronts

Thanks Beau and Chippy - I like the idea of just-protruding screws, I don't have any clamps which are narrow enough to fit so that's what I'm going with.

    Thanks Matthew, useful tip.

    How to fit drawer fronts

Yes got it now, I can see it will work on overlaid fronts using the gap between adjacent drawers rather than the drawer and the carcase.

    How to fit drawer fronts

Thanks Glynne, the idea of using double sided tape did cross my mind but I think the hot melt glue would be better. I don't however understand your suggestion of shims, surely these would only work on an inset drawer not overlaid on the carcase sides?

    How to fit drawer fronts

I'm gradually upgrading the kitchen by installing Blum soft close drawer runners in the MFI cabinets and making drawers out of 12mm ply with 6mm bases. So far I have replaced the original drawer fronts as a temporary measure but have started making replacement ones out of 18mm MDF which I intend...

Type of plywood used for making wardrobes/cabinets?

Are you intending to paint the wardrobe? If so, you might want to consider making faux cladding by routing vertical V grooves into the MDF. Then you would have no worries re timber movement. I've used this method and to my eyes it is very effective.

    Drawer thickness

I've just made some kitchen cabinet drawers and used 12mm ply all round with 6mm base. They are very sturdy when glued up.

    Table Saw vs Track Saw

Hi all - I don't want to resurrect a debate which may already have been had, but this is what I chose for what it's worth. Was looking for a long time at the Bosch GTS 10 XC and about to jump in when I thought it might be a. too big for my tiny workspace and b. overkill for what I do. I...

    MFT Top

Yes LancsRick, cosy is the word. Warm in winter as it's at the top of the house and as you can see I've Celotexed the roof slope, but gets quite warm in summer. I took out the low stud wall which divided the room from the eave space which is now where I keep my wood.

    MFT Top

Thanks Adam. Yes it is dead accurate, will be a piece of cake cutting right angles and 45 degrees with the Festool guide.

    MFT Top

Have done some work to expand my tiny workshop at the top of the house and get back into woodwork. Having just acquired a track saw I am smitten with all things Festool and I seriously coveted a MFT having seen the Peter Parfitt videos but was looking for a cheaper alternative. The top you can...

Preparing MDF edges for chalk paint

Thanks for the replies - i have had limited experience of chalk paint but you need the wax to protect the surface from absorbing stains. Its other advantage is that it is very easy to apply, little or no prep needed, and it adheres well even straight over wax, so retouching the odd scuff would...

Preparing MDF edges for chalk paint

Hi all, looking for some advice on finishing MDF. I'm replacing our kitchen cabinet doors which I am decorating with a simple pattern routed in with a v point cutter. I've experimented on an off cut with chalk paint, 2 coats applied with a roller then waxed and it looks good. I sealed the edges...

    Table Saw

Thanks hrk for your opinion on the Bosch saw which echoes most of the reviews I've seen on it. It will definitely be on my wish list. I did know about the riving knife which you can push down to make blind cuts but that video you sent the link to which I hadn't seen before sends shivers down the...

    Table Saw

Thanks everyone for your excellent advice. I have seen those videos of our cousins across the pond using unguarded saws and they are horrific. I never really thought of deema's suggestion re the rebate plane but I will certainly have a look at that option. I am also going to build or buy a...

    Table Saw

Hi All My first post so please go easy on me. Have been a bodger for many years, making simple cupboards, shelves etc but now want to expand my repertoire and skills and also acquire some extra kit. I am particularly thinking of a simple table saw, e.g. the Bosch GTS 10XC, which what I have...
