    Picture Framing with Track Saw

Sorry folks, I set up a new album in photo bucket and didn't realise this would break the link to the photos. Back now.

    Picture Framing with Track Saw

I’ve been thinking for some time of how to make my own picture frame mouldings, nothing fancy, just rectangular section stock with a rebate cut out for the photo, mount, glass and backing board. Some months ago I took advice from the forum re the feasibility of using a table saw for this and the...

Blum drawer boxes - Who has the best prices?

Don't know about price but Isaac Lord have a good range of Blum and quick delivery.

    Festool vs Bosch Sander

Really helpful comments from all, thanks. The lack of straightforward extraction attachment on the Bosch ( I have the Festool CTL Midi) is a problem IMO. On balance I think I will go for the ETS, I won't often need really aggressive sanding and I have an old Bosch belt sander for that. I have a...

    Festool vs Bosch Sander

Peter - yes I was looking at the older model that you have but you know what it's like when you just must have the latest model, despite the extra cost. And the lower profile and brushless motor undoubtedly are improvements. I didn't realise the difference between the Bosch models. Thanks for...

    Festool vs Bosch Sander

Many thanks for your input, I think I am swaying towards the Festool, the weight is the deal breaker, and I am reassured by the comments re it's ability to remove stock with the right grit. Everyone's comments are much appreciated.

    Festool vs Bosch Sander

Hi Adam, thanks for that, but I have looked at the Rotex and it is v expensive for the occasional use that I will be putting it to; it is very heavy; and tbh I don't need something quite as aggressive

    Festool vs Bosch Sander

Thanks pcb1962, useful info, and about the plug it tail. How easy is it to use vertically, say on a wall? I'm conscious of the fact that it's about twice the weight of the Festool.

    Festool vs Bosch Sander

I'd appreciate any help or advice from people that have used the Festool ETS EC 150/5 and/or the Bosch GEX 125-150. The latter is about half the price of the former and I'm wondering whether the Festool is twice as good. I have a CTL Midi for dust extraction. I don't do a lot of sanding but...

    supplies for framing

Have you thought of using 5mm foam board instead of proper mounting board? Dead easy to cut, cheap and light. I've used it to mount A3+ prints using IKEA frames with perspex 'glass'. I didn't bother trying to mitre cut the cutout but just did it at 90 degrees.

    Kitchen Makeover WIP

Hi Matt, yes used a V bit, about 3 mm deep. Used a large piece of MDF as a jig base, then fixed a length of MDF for the router to move along against a fence. Clamped drawer front in place then routed all 4 sides to give groove about 75 mm from each edge. I thought simple but effective.

    Kitchen Makeover WIP

Yes, sorry, the depths of the drawers are different, top is 160, middle 270 and bottom 280. The Blum runners are rated at 30kg max load and even with the bottom drawer full of plates it is well within that.

Thanks! If you mean in the bottom picture they're not. It's the parallax effect of the photo. Would be a neat idea though.

    Kitchen Makeover WIP

I thought I'd share a couple of pics of my kitchen upgrade. Existing units are B&Q 15mm chipboard carcasses, a few years old now but structurally in OK condition. As my wife has trouble bending to get into the back of floor cupboards I am installing 3 drawers per unit instead. I've used 12mm...

Essential track saw accessories (e.g. for Festool TS55)

Can thoroughly recommend the lookalike MFT top, no less accurate than the Festool original. I've just cut up a 2440 x 1200 sheet of 12mm ply to make kitchen drawers, using Parf dogs, took me longer to work out my cutting list than actually cut the sheet, all beautifully accurate and square.

    How to fit drawer fronts

Thanks Richard, never thought of using flange head screws, more elegant than a screw and washer. Awesome website of yours too!
