    Shower Enclosure

Got my tray, enclosure and fittings from Victoria Plum a couple of years back. Reasonable price, good quality and swift delivery.

    Last kitchen of the year

Lovely. It’s good to see open shelving rather than a row of slabby wall units.

How to insulate a shed on a budget

I’m no expert (need to wait for MikeG to come along), the question to ask is...where does that water go? It will drain to the bottom of the cavity and rot the sole plate and any other timbers it contacts. You have to prevent water or water vapour getting in and/or provide sufficient air gap to...

    Bathroom/loo pull switch replacement?

Why not just reroute the wiring to give you a wall switch outside the wet room?

looking for some basic advice MDF advice.

Avoid MDF. Though it is a great material in many circumstances, for what you are proposing I’d go for pine slats as suggested. If you are looking to make drawers from MDF and using dowels, it would need to be 18mm which would make them very heavy. As it will be a functional rather than...

Your opinion in using Threatend/Endangered woods?

Perhaps we were wrong to get rid of bear-baiting as we then deprived the bears' owners of a living.

Your opinion in using Threatend/Endangered woods?

On that logic then we should be encouraging African poachers to keep killing elephants and rhinos so they can keep selling their body parts to the Chinese.

Bosch POF 1400 ACE mounting in a router table

Hi Robert I’ve just checked my router and I misremembered how I fixed it. I actually used 2 of the existing threaded holes in the base to accept bolts to secure it to the table base. So no nuts. I figured that I wouldn’t need more than 2 and it is certainly very stable. I also took the springs...

Bosch POF 1400 ACE mounting in a router table

I have the exact same router and a home made table. I took off the base and used countersunk bolts and nuts through two of the existing holes. Countersink is on the table side which I then overlaid with thin ply to give a smooth top.

    Three unusual doors.

That ironwork is absolutely gorgeous, particularly the bell pull. And what an ingenious solution to fit the lock. Hats off to you. PS - is tiffling the same as fettling?

    Which fixings for concrete post?

I’ve used thunderbolts internally (fitting a fireplace) and they work superbly. However, not sure if they are suitable externally where corrosion would be an issue.

    I like technology

My wife has the most amazing sense of smell. In our last but one house she swore she could smell gas in the area of the patio. I pooh poohed her for weeks till she ground me down and I got in the gas board. They got their sniffer out and eventually found a tiny leak in the main 3 feet under the...

An entrance door with MY glass in it.

There is no beading. The panels are built into the door as part of the manufacturing process. So what happens if the glass gets broken? Replace the whole door? Sounds like a daft manufacturing method to me.

    Is this sensible?

I can’t offer advice a la Mike G but just wanted to say welcome to the NE. I’m in Blyth, Northumberland, a great place to be.

    Remembering Grandad

Ok thanks. It is an emotive issue, particularly on this day, and easy to tread on someone’s sensibilities, particularly those with personal experiences of loss.

Just a small correction AES. I never said ‘war-loving volunteers’.

    Dipped Door Disaster

+1 for paint. My understanding of the arts and craft style is that wooden furniture and doors echo a Medieval English vibe. So the timber would be something like oak, not pine. Stripped pine anyway is a bit historically inaccurate. The Victorians painted their doors.
