    Best way to store planes?

Some good ideas here, and some laughs. Thanks all.

    Marples 4 1/2 plane rebuild

Success fitting a new bolt. It stands out a bit like the dog's danglies, but works fine and the frog will hide it. Rejuvenation is now complete as per photos below - I didn't repaint the sole or frog. I don't have the right stuff and I thought it would destroy the plane's character. Instead...

Ive solved the Wellington Boots and Sock problem

My wife bought me slippers with laces on the front, which constantly came undone and tripped me. I finally stopped their constant assassination attempts with a hot glue gun!

    Best way to store planes?

When you turn the plane you have to do it gently so as not to disturb the silt. Perhaps if I store them under a pyramid they will self-sharpen? Thanks for the above. I'll keep them under the mattress with my stash of £100 notes.

    Another Joke

A tramp walks into a posh restaurant, sits down at a free table and wipes his nose on the tablecloth. He then begins to peruse the menu. A smartly dressed waiter comes over, looks down his nose at the tramp and asks him in a haughty voice if he requires service. The waiter doesn't call...

    Best way to store planes?

What is the best way to store planes? New boy here starting out, and I don't want to wreck my investment in tools through ignorance. I don't mean caring for them with oil/wax etc, but should they be flat, on their side, on end(!) ? Or what? Does storing them the wrong way eventually distort...

    Another Joke

Two old ladies were sitting in their deck chairs on the beach, when a handsome young male streaker ran past. One had a stroke. The other couldn't reach.

Things you say that got you into the dog house.

To a senior officer, just after I have exited trap 2 while the water is still flushing, and he is at the sinks washing his hands: Him: Ah Stan, that's the best part of you gone then. Me: No sir, I was just giving birth to a supervisor. ** I believe that if you can't take it, don't...

    buying hand planes

If you are looking to ebay for a working plane rather than a collector's piece, once you have found a plane you fancy I suggest the following. First check all the parts are there. If something you can't do without is missing, you will either have to make it or source it from somewhere. A...

    Another Joke

A young couple were walking arm in arm across Red square Moscow one evening, when it began to rain. A playful argument began as to whether it was snowing or raining. This went on for a few minutes without reaching any conclusion until: Him: It's obviously raining. Look. See that soldier on...

Indeed it would. I would have to decide how much the principle was worth to me.

    private charge notice

English/Welsh law and Scots law broadly follow the same principles, but often differ in the fine detail of the wording. Lots of cases are won and lost on that fine wording, however. Under English/Welsh law if the offence under consideration falls under the Road Traffic act 1988, the plod can...

    Marples 4 1/2 plane rebuild

Thanks for all the above. I have now based my drill press and am ready to try helicoiling. ( Sounds like an extreme sport...far too energetic for me ). A couple of pics showing how cleaning up is progressing - Once the helicoiling is done, I can move on to fettling ( sounds like...

    Workshop First Aid, WoundClot Gauze?

What Sideways said. If you get injured and suffer a catastrophic bleed, you will not have very long to do something. You must do the right thing straight away. If you get it wrong it is more than possible you will be non functioning within the first minute, comatose for the second minute and...
