Hmmm, sorry to pour water on your fire Pete but haves you read the rules? I've just had a quick look and it seems to say that you can only vote once for any entrant, and any multiple voting will be voided! hope this is not the case for all the effort that's been going on.

    MDF or plywood?

Veneered MDF will be fine, probably better in this case than veneered plywood.

    Identify the wood and finish

Hi there, The wood is easy it's Sapele, the finish is more difficult but I'd hazard a guess that it's a clear poly urethane varnish may well have been sprayed, it does look like a custom made door.

    Wood I.D - Possibly Teak

Looks like a wood I used once, Hydua, was one name it went under or could be Afrormosia if not teak.

Joining 'Contiboard' (or whatever it's called these days)

As you will never have an invisible join anyway, leave the edges just as they are, then just screw a ply splint across the join underneath.

charnwood spindle moulder bobbin sanding any good?

First off I know nothing of Charnwood and have no experience of a sanding bobbin in a spindle moulder, but I do have a cheap small bobbin sander and that only really works well because it not only revolves as you would expect but oscillates up and down, this helps the grit to stay clear of dust...

Viceroy - Good news, Bad news
