    Chuck Advice for Turning Novice

I did my last wood turning about 35 years ago at school but always fancied getting into it as a hobby and earlier today I bought a Jet 1221VS in Axminster's clearance sale. I intend to start off turning bowls up to 12" diameter and want to buy a chuck. I am currently considering the Evolution...

    Lathe and tools wanted

Have a look in your nearest Axminster store, and you may pick up a bargain on a new lathe as they are doing some good clearance deals at the moment. I just picked up a new Jet 1221VS for £480 earlier today. Previously sold at £999, recently reduced to £715 to clear so £480 seemed a good deal.

    Axminster Price Hikes

Was in one of their stores today and commented on the price rises and was told they had just done their annual price review prior to the new catalogue release. Was told that across the board price rises only happen once a year with increases due to changing cost of goods sourced (inflation) and...

    Increasing manufacturing capacity/productivity

Do you understand what is limiting your capacity currently, ie what is your bottleneck resource? Is this bottleneck resource running flat out ... if not why not and what is constraining it? You mentioned you had considered expansion into additional premises but you didn't mention what shift...

    Transformations

My guess on the drawer / apron construction would be to rip off the top inch or so of the front apron above the drawer. The drawer front could then be cut out of the centre of the lower section of the cut front apron. That only leaves the problem of dealing with the kerf gap either side of the...

Post a photo of the last thing you made

... more importantly it keeps my work area tidy so I don't keep tripping over them. Simple construction but effective and space efficient. Made from free material too ... an old window sill board the builders kindly left behind in my loft.

    General Restore

Have a look at some of Thomas Johnson's restoration videos. This guy works miracles on the most knackered of furniture and he covers a lot of different techniques which may be of use. You just need to watch enough of them to find what you are looking for...

Unidentified Tool - Anyone Know What This is Off?

The clamp isn't sprung at all. To give an idea of scale, the length of the fence is roughly 4 1/2" long and my gut feels more like it's off a hand tool rather than anything electric ... but what ??? Unless anyone recognises it I guess we will never know. :(

Unidentified Tool - Anyone Know What This is Off?

Found this during a tidy up and can't for the life of me remember or work out what its off. Obviously it's some kind of fence ... but from what ????? Answers on a postcard ...

I took a similar approach ... 2 small 6mm diameter N52 Neodymium rare earth magnets and a straight 6" steel rule. I've just fitted a new bandsaw blade and as you can see my fence is out and needs adjusting. I ordered the magnets from China some time ago thinking they would come in handy...
