Woodwork Bench Build (Using Only Hand Tools) - Progress

Hi, thats a great one. Regards the vice, its not so hard. I just stripped it down competely, wire wheeled and got rid of the rust from all the components. I had to sort the quick release as it didnt work but apart from that, its easy although needs a good bit of elbow grease. Primed it and...

🤣😂 I’m sure if I have a week or so drooling over it, I will then realise I better start using it Paul 👍🏼 Great yours has lasted 20 years. I bet it’s got a lot more in it still. I’m 49 and hope mine outlives me to be honest. I reckon it should as long as I aren’t too heavy handed so maybe a...

Glad to say, I’ve now got it in position and some tools on there. I’ve also now created and installed the dog for the vice from oak. Here,s the vice before I restored it. Also, it didn’t work but does now. Just got some dogs holes to drill opposite the vice. Funny thing is, now that it’s...

Wow, many thanks Ian, much appreciated. Regards a planing stop, I am actually thinking about it to be honest (amongst other things). I’m probably going to get my vice dog done and some dogs in the top first and then see how I get on. Adding and improving as I go is what I’m planning to do. I’m...

    Winding Sticks - Best Length

I’m going to make some Winding Sticks at some stage. I had a temporary pair which helped me with my workbench build and they proved extremely useful. My temporary ones were about 300mm and I thought they were a bit short at the time. I was thinking 500 or 600 might have been better. What does...

Woodwork Bench Build (Using Only Hand Tools) - Progress

Many thanks Triton, I’m on board totally with what you have said. Now that I’m pretty much finished (apart from doing a dog for my vice and some dog holes in the top), I’m very much looking forward to doing some pottering for a while for a rest, maybe do some restoration projects or have a good...

Hi Grant, yes they do. Slight bow but nothing major. Paul sellers uses these particular ones and puts a bit of wood through the centre to give it a bit more rigidity. I got them from Amazon. Amazon 36” sash clamps here Rob
