    Teaching - Drilling

I'll start gently with a mention of the worse accident I had with a child, a horrid 13 year old tyke. "Sir, John's cut his leg" - blood spurting from calf, an artery cut. "I cut it on a sharp thing sticking out of the bench". I'm in my metalwork room, in the department we all leave our doors...

    Have you noticed....

It's the same with the grants to update insulation and boilers. It would be great to have a hearing system that fits not run on fossil fuels, but there is no way I could afford one even with the grant. Surely it's the same less wealthy people who have to buy cheap houses who need the grant more.

    Have you noticed....

I have a totally mad neighbour (must be he mows his lawn every 2 days summer and winter) he and wife have 2 salon and a van thing used to take dogs to shows 4 or 5 times a year. He now also has a works van for his part time job as a handyman in a caravan park. He claims to open the cars outright...

Did you, and have you checked on how safe your car really is, it seems from the tests like the EU one I posted about yesterday that they are not as safer as many think. I don't think of like to be in a 2.5 Tom SUV hit by a bus either.

    It must be windy....

The rooks that live next door just love windy days, as do seagulls and starlings - but no sparrows to be seen.

    Teaching - Drilling

A great age to teach. Pistol grip hand drills are dire! The force on the handle is not in line with the drill bit - making it hard to drill properly. Do you get another pupil to sight the drill from the side to help the driller keep it perpendicular until they get the hang of it?

Hacksaws: How to choose 'em, how to use 'em, + other "stuff"

I've not used one for many, many years - I didn't even realise they had stopped making them. I remember using some with adaptors to fit a 10" hacksaw frame and I also used some with rings on the end of the blades that directly fit a hacksaw frame. But I had a google and came across these...

    Have you noticed....

I understand from chatting to only a few people (I avoid people if I can), that they think SUVs are safe - but this is not upheld by the tests, according to the EU ENCAP (dare I mention the EU), of the top 10 safest cars only one is an SUV.

    Have you noticed....

I'll add to our moans - being my age I feel I need to act like an old codger. Too many ageists on here complaining about the younger people on their electric scooters - until the day I need one (I hope it will be at least 10 years away) I want to ban mobility scooters that travel faster than 3...

Radiator TRVs. Does anyone want to talk me out of removing them?

I do wonder if having any thermostats on radiators is worth while - unless all the interior doors are kept closed.

Well that didn’t go as planned.

I can't remember any job done for me, on house or car that I've been pleased with. I fear the time I will need to pay people to mess things up. I once work alongside a plasterer I would trust, but I've never had a plastering job I need him for.

    Stormproof windows

I'd be concerned that if the hinges are rebated to close the gap the windows might not close, the gap takes up any issues with the frame, of go for the same solution you had, more EPDM seals.

    Salvaged Wood Haul

All this about nails reminds me of sitting in the yard with my dad straightening nails to use on his next project.

    Running out of time...

No, they jump from being children to being adult children still playing video games..... Seriously in the 50s and I think In the 60s we were expected to be children, unless going to a wedding we dressed like children and did childish things, now kids are dressed like adults, see and hear...
