    Router bits starting out

Hello all, I am a relative novice when it comes down to routing. I have a 'Trend set' and have added a couple extras for specific needs, again Trend Craft Pro as that's all I knew. However now that I am getting a router table setup and have a few projects in line then I have started to look at...

Do I need a two motor extractor?

I have been very pleased with my 2 x motor CamVac, I built a baffle box for the exhaust hoses to run in to and per above it works really well.

Successful router dust collection with CamVac

In my wall mounted box I used acoustic tiles (Amazon, not the egg box type). I used the single exhaust pipe supplied by RP for the purpose and slit it in to 2 pieces. I got the fittings for the cut ends from Plastic Pipe Shop and glued the flanges into a rebate I made in the the box. The cut...

    Camvac silencer

In my wall mounted box I used acoustic tiles (Amazon, not the egg box type). I used the single exhaust pipe supplied by RP for the purpose and slit it in to 2 pieces. I got the fittings for the cut ends from Plastic Pipe Shop and glued the flanges into a rebate I made in the the box. The cut...

Successful router dust collection with CamVac

Ah now that would seem to be logical. There are 3 factors to consider; pressure, velocity and flow rate. If we assume the pressure is a constant, which I think we can in a HP system (to a degree), then the velocity is a function of the area. The Camvac flowrate is rated at circa 108 l/s at the...

Successful router dust collection with CamVac

Hi all, this is an interesting discussion. I am building up my new workshop. I have just finished my sound baffle box for my floor standing twin motor Camvac (it works a treat). It is mounted on the wall on the exhaust side of the vac. My next project is to build my router table. I have the...

Ply wood for finishing garden room (birch alternative)

On slightly different tack I bought some 18 mm ply {non-structural HW) recently from B&Q and also a local timber merchant. They were similarly priced and I felt the B&Q stuff was better quality. I have also found Wickes to be reasonably priced for ply.

Power options for a new bandsaw

Hi, Yes, thanks and interesting. I am not an electrician and my sparky did all the original calcs. The installation is certified so at least I am covered on insurance LOL. Looking at your calculator it does seem that the extra length makes all the difference. Out of curiosity I checked on...

Power options for a new bandsaw

Hi, I just picked up on this thread. I may have missed something however the first thing that struck me was 'why is the 6mm swa on a 20 A MCB'? I have a similar setup with 6 mm swa cable running to my garden workshop which is 30 m away. This is fed from a BG MCB B40 at the main consumer unit to...

Charnwood W629 Table saw? 2 buy or not 2 buy.

Ahh now, well I think that the good advice that was given did tell me that at the end of the day peoples needs and budgets are different and any 'niggles' with the Charnwood have thus far been only as I expected. Most, if not all people who have bought one have been happy with their purchase...

Charnwood W629 Table saw? 2 buy or not 2 buy.

Hi all, I just wanted to let people know the outcomes of my original post and update folks on my experience. I did go ahead and buy the Charnwood W629. For personal health reasons my project got put on hold for a few months and its taken sometime for me to get to set up the machine and try it...

    Men Sheds!

This is interesting. The thread has piqued my interest. I would be more than happy to help out 'men sheds' if they would have me. My 'she shed' which I mentioned earlier is a bit more industrial and not painted pink. It has (when it is complete) a Charnwood table saw, Router table with AUK...

    Woodworking courses

Hi, does anyone know of any courses/schools running in the East Midlands/South Yorkshire region? The ones I have seen are southern based. It would be preferable to find some courses more local to me. Else the cost of accommodation can make attending a course unaffordable. Jackie

    Quiet Shop Vac?

I have just bought a Record Power Camvac. They use a simple technique to reduce the noise level which is to attach a 2m flex tube to the fan motor outlet. This acts as a noise baffle. The principles of noise baffle boxes are available online. The best example would be a car exhaust silencer. My...

    Big gap under internal doors

If the builder was the principle contractor and he was asked to do the spec change then really he should be the one sorting out the problem. Even though the Customer changed the spec he should have picked up on this and had the flooring contractors fit a 20 mm sub floor (as Pete said). Of course...

    Cheap Clamps

Great spot. I got 7 at my local Wickes store in Chesterfield, cleaned out their stock. @£3 a clamp you cant go wrong and it means I can now get some better quality parallel jaw clamps for my workshop. Eclipse Heavy duty Parallel Jaws clamp? Anyone recommend? Jackie

Looking for a good UK plunge/table router

@phario. I think that your thoughts at this stage in your journey of getting a used router such as the Dewalt 625 would be as good a place to start as any. For probably circa £100 you could get a decent enough machine to get you going and well inside budget. My Trend T7 2100w, 1/2 inch router is...

Looking for a good UK plunge/table router

Going back to @ Phario's original post and query. The point about the end destination, i.e. what you want/need to be able to do, and as important, what your budget/affordability is is very valid. This will ultimately drive the decision making process. I would advise to taking your time and hence...

    router lift

Yes it would be good if they could offer the choice of which inserts you could have with the package. I am sure they could if they wished to. It is annoying when you have to discard something you don't need and replace @ extra cost with the parts you do want. Especially when they are promoting...
