    Bambu lab buying advice

I have a Flashforge Adventurer 3 Pro. Print size is 150mm in all directions. It can print PLA, ABS and PETG. I think the best attributes are the heated bed, which makes ABS printing more successful. The slicer program is good, you can add all sorts of options including variable infill...

Nvr switch on dust extractor. To be or not to be?

Again, no exposed moving parts so I don't see the need for a NVR switch. In addition, in my home workshop I have a table saw, mitre saw, band saw, and planner / thicknesser. Having a remote control in my pocket is much easier when moving from machine to machine. In our Shed, the extractor is...

Nvr switch on dust extractor. To be or not to be?

I have an Axminster extractor at home and we have one in our Men's Shed. In the Shed, the extractor is in a different room from the saw and other machines. Both have been rewired to remove the NVR switch. Why? All table saws have the dust port on the back of the saw, opposite where you...

    Obtaining decent wood

I have used British Hardwoods and the quality is pretty good. I always plane and square up what I buy due to some pieces are not perfectly square and flat. Having said that I plane and square any timber no matter where I buy it from.

    Dust extraction despair

I use FreeCad 21 to make adapters. It is easy to loft one diameter to another. However, when you "thickness" (hollow out) the part you need to specify which direction you want the thickness to go. Inside or outside. I made several wrong parts by not specifying which way to go and my the...

    Table saw views….

I bought an Axminster AT254SB several years ago. Very, very accurate, can cut three inch's with no problem, solid, no vibration, low noise, couldn't be happier. Other than dust collection which I modified and is now as good as it's going to get. It is 16Amp, but it doesn't take much to make...

Sip twin bag extractor removal of grate

I removed the grate on mine the day I bought it. As mentioned above it's only there to stop you putting your hand in the impellor. But you have to put your hand in to clean the thing! Who would put their hand into the impellor with the machine running??

    Helping at a repair cafe

The other option we use; if you need specialist tools that you have at home, take the item home and fix it and give the owner a ring when it's done. Also, if we run out of time.

    Helping at a repair cafe

Saving from landfill is the objective of the Repair Cafe. We have fixed many vacuum's, toasters, coffee machines, etc, even a robotic vacuum! The list goes on and on. I must say we have a very talented bunch of guys. I replaced a switch in an angle grinder and the guy gave us £20.00 and a...

    Helping at a repair cafe

I volunteer at our local Repair Cafe for the mechanical / Electrical station. I use my own tools, tool many to list here and most have been mentioned above. The Cafe purchased some security screw bit kits, some long reach bits including star and hex fasteners. They also purchased a heat gun...

Mitre saw - Rutland V Makita

Hi all, I used 18mm MDF, connected to a 100mm dust extraction system utilizing both the box and the saws in line dust port. I removed all of the original dust "cuffs" around the back of the blade. The box has internal baffles to eliminate any corners where the dust might collect. I have one...

Mitre saw - Rutland V Makita

I have a Makita LS1019L, front rails, compound cuts, excellent thin kerf blade, accurate and repeatable cuts, very, very solid. I modified the fence to improve the dust collection and now it captures (I'm guessing) 90% of the dust. It has a rather large table, good for cutting wide boards. I...

    Help and Advice

I am involved in a Men's Shed start up and we need several items. Belt sander and pillar drill would certainly help. You can post the items here or email me the details. <mod edit : email address removed for prudence. Please use the conversation / personal message facility >

    Axminster AC254 table saw

I get your point. If budget and size weren't an issue I would opt for a meter square, cast iron, 3hp monster. Unfortunately that is not the case. Also need to consider the cost of moving the thing. So, the hunt continues. And when I do find a saw, the hunt for an extractor will begin!

    Axminster AC254 table saw

I have seen this saw. Seems bit of a brute but that's ok. And its cheaper. Any idea of spares availability? The Axminster AC216 is ok. Bit pricey. If they didn't have the sliding table the overall size would be quite smaller and it would be cheaper. Maybe I need to go back to our...

    Axminster AC254 table saw

I have looked at the Kity 619. I understand spare parts are rather rare. The Charnwood 629 is a reasonable fit, however the ones I have found are outside our budget. I am planning on looking at a 619 (8 inch) to see the table size. I have looked at a Scheppach TS2000. The table is...

    Mens Sheds

Yes, exactly. While fixing the lawnmower they talk, make new friends and in my experience, talk about ways to deal with life's problems and the guy will walk away feeling much better than he did when he walked in. Keeping up the new relationship usually happens without any effort.
