    Bandsaw guide bearings.

Yes, simply bearings have all the standard sizes. Make sure the part number ends in "Z" or "ZZ". These have sealed bearing, good for a band saw.

SawStop, stops on contact with skin is coming to Europe soon!

Sorry guys, I can't let this go. Sawstop make a product to stop you cutting your fingers off. If you use a crown guard it gets difficult to cut yourself. I made a plastic guard for the left side of the crown guard which includes an angled piece that covers the front end of the crown guard...

Cost difference between S4S and rough hardwoods

Once you get a planner / thicknesser you'll wonder how you got along without one. Couple that with a good table saw and your life will be much improved. However, you will need a decent dust extractor for both. Unless you are making some giant stuff, a router table (1/2 inch, 2000+ watt) will...

    Table saw or bandsaw?

I think the band saw and table saw accomplish different tasks. Like mentioned above, you cannot trim bowl blanks on a table saw. You cannot cut finger joints on a band saw. Also, a table saw will give a much better, smoother cut. The table saw is much more versatile, you can cut, finger...

    Help with extraction please

A 3D printer will solve your problems, just as it did for me. Or, if you know someone who has one. I have made numerous adapters for all sorts of things. Just yesterday I made two adapters for some jig saws for our Men's Shed.

I prefer corded for most things, especially those that use dust extraction. Router, sander, etc. My extractors have a power take off socket, so when the tool is turned on the extraction comes on as well. Obviously table saw, mitre saw, band saw and planner are not on the auto system, although...

    Scheppach

Well, if the blades are below the outfeed table how do you get the wood to move onto the outfield table? If you use push blocks or your hands, you should always keep pressure both tables, then as he wood moves past the infeed table keep pressure on the outfeed table and you won't get any snipe...

    Scheppach

Our Men's Shed purchased a used HMS 260 for £50.00. Bargain of the century in my mind. This machine is built like a bridge, very solid, heavy, and once setup it stays setup. Everything about it is heavy duty. And it is accurate. Setting the blades is done like any other planner /...

Mastering locking miter router bit use

Has anyone seen this setup jig for a non-mitre lock joint? I prefer the non-mitre as the edges are not as delicate and you can extend the front face to eliminate the need for a face plate on the drawer front.

    Table saw fence

Having the fence on the right side of the blade allows you to see the work piece / fence contact. Standing to the left of the blade, as you should, would not allow you to see the work piece / fence contact if the fence was on the left side of the blade.

Table Saw kickback and trimmed finger (Graphic description & images)

Ah yes, a fixed crown guard / dust collector. Good idea!

Table Saw kickback and trimmed finger (Graphic description & images)

Maybe I'm having a bad day, but how do you get sled through the blade with the crown guard hitting the front upright?
  13. M

Table Saw kickback and trimmed finger (Graphic description & images)

I don't and never will use a crosscut sled due to the need to remove the crown guard. If cutting narrow pieces I made a thin strip sled that keeps my fingers well away from the blade / crown guard. This can also be used for thin strips down to 2mm. The end of the sled has a retractable hook...

Yes, I have an in line filter. I think the problem is condensation after a long period of inactivity.

    sand blasting

I have the MM bench cabinet. Good for small parts, not so good for anything big. The biggest problem I have is moisture. As soon as the blasting media gets damp I end up constantly moving the feed tube around trying to find some drier media. The damp media is too difficult to suck off the...

SawStop, stops on contact with skin is coming to Europe soon!

I don't see the need for a Saw Stop. As mentioned above, a push stick will keep your hands away from the blade, the crown guard will prevent your fingers from coming into the contact with the blade. But, what are your fingers doing that close to the crown guard? (If you happen to fall into...

    US Election November 5th

I'm an American having lived in the UK for the past 34 years. I don't hear a lot of what goes on but through family and friends I get the feel of what American's are saying. One friend emailed me the following: "When Biden decided to step aside, there was a very palpable feeling of relief...

SawStop, stops on contact with skin is coming to Europe soon!

JSW is not a fan of push shoes and prefers a push stick. Certainly his choice. However, a push shoe will create downward pressure on the workpiece all the way along and past the blade. A push stick cannot do this.

SawStop, stops on contact with skin is coming to Europe soon!

We see lots of You Tube videos showing someone using a table saw without the riving knife or crown (blade) guard in place. This is stupid. They also promote the Micro jig push block that is unusable with the riving knife and crown guard in place. Another stupid move. I ALWAYS use a feather...
