    Table Saws -again!

I have the Record TS250-RS, which I think is the same saw unit but with a longer travel sliding table. Have a look for my review of the saw if you want more details. The T slot in the sliding table is handy for securing jigs etc which you can then use the sliding table to push past the blade. I...

    WIP Understairs Pull Out Drawers

The OP states he used accuride 7957 slides with 634xx brackets. A quick search on Google reveals you can get them from Buller amongst other places. Sent from my SM-N960F using Tapatalk

Anyone got a Record Power TS250C-PK/A

I have the TS250-RS, which I think is the same saw unit with a longer sliding table. It's a decent saw - check out my review and subsequent posts on it. Sent from my SM-N960F using Tapatalk

    New workshop build

Looks smart to me, would love to have a space like that even if the wall isn't to best practice. Sent from my SM-N960F using Tapatalk

My 3.6 X 7 Meter build, have a base ready to go

The OP said the reinforcement was 2" from the bottom of a 6" slab, i.e. about 1/3 the way up? It would be better sitting slightly lower I agree, but if it is an inch below the middle as I have interpreted then it will be doing some good. Edit: I was going on the post where he cited advice given...

My 3.6 X 7 Meter build, have a base ready to go

I think that is in the right place - reinforcement goes towards the bottom of the slab for reinforcement, since that is where tension builds when under high loads. If it's mainly for crack control (not structural) then it goes near the top. The mid thickness point of the slab is its neutral axis...

DBT85s Workshop - Moved in and now time to fit it out

For the wooden beam, sure. But the fasteners through the ends don't affect the beam deflection. Perhaps more to do with the area over which the load is distributed onto the wood fibres of the hole - excessive loading would crush and distort the hole's form. Sent from my SM-N960F using Tapatalk

    Inline duct fans

As had been said here, it's not a good idea. A fan's performance isn't fixed to the rated numbers - these are flow rates under design conditions. All fans have a performance curve of flow rate vs differential pressure. Axial plate fans move a lot of air at very low differential pressure, but...

Why safety goggles are important ....

SUVA type guards are supported by a separate arm with parallelogram linkage and float over the blade and riving knife assembly, typically without connection to the riving knife. Sent from my SM-N960F using Tapatalk

Seeking a THIN Mirka interface pad

Axminster sell them. I think this is the one I use (I bought a pack years ago): https://www.axminster.co.uk/mirka-disc- ... s-ax851925 The are two types. I think a "pad saver" is the type you're looking for - just a thin bit of velcro to protect the pad on the tool. There are also "interface...

    What are you making today?

Finished off a bin store this morning to appease the boss for a bit. This afternoon I shall be making a seed bed in the vegetable patch. Sent from my SM-N960F using Tapatalk

Plans for a portable workbench/assembly table (MFT Style) ?

A sheet of 12mm ply and an MDF top, a few bits of thicker section wood plus a few bits of hardware (5 sets of short drawer runners plus catches, wheels, a pair of hinges,a pair of adjustable feet plus the track for the edge of the top). From memory there's a coupe of small bits of 18mm ply in...

Plans for a portable workbench/assembly table (MFT Style) ?

I've built an MFTC to his designs, it's brilliant. The only thing I would change is the position and size of the wheels - particularly with the 18mm top I used, the centre of mass is so far behind the wheels it's a bit of a struggle to tip it up and the angle at which it is balanced is quite...

    Which floor standing pillar drill?

A few drills like the Elliot use a geared head as a final reduction for very low speed drilling in metal - as you correctly identify, the torque is too great to make belt drives practical. You can still get geared head drills at the more industrial end of the market - modern Meddings etc. Sent...

New Table Saw or New Fence System

I disagree. If the saw unit itself is decent, then an accurate and solid fence is all it needs. I have a homemade fence on my record saw which is better than the original, rock solid, always square, super quick and accurate to adjust. You have to spend big money on a new saw to get something...

What do you use compressed air blower in your workshop for?

Drying things, blowing dust off projects prior to finishing and from inside machines, cleaning down swarf from the lathe, blowing out filters (outside), with a suitable sized rubber bung inflating childs bouncy balls/paddling pools etc... I have no idea how many of these things are/aren't...

    Looking for some rooflight advice

Thanks both. I've been having the same thoughts as you Fitz - why are these units so expensive compared to ordinary DG units? Your info helps to understand why. I've made some progress - I've found a company that will sell only the polycarbonate lid for the domes at a much more reasonable price...

    Looking for some rooflight advice

I did look at that type of rooflight yes - as I said I was surprised to find these don't seem to be substantially cheaper than flat glazing. E.g. a double skin Thermadome polycarbonate dome 600x1800 light is £344.63 from that site you recommended, whereas I can get a 600x1500 triple glazed...

    Looking for some rooflight advice

Fingers crossed, I'm finally going to get around to building my workshop this year. I'm aiming for a building close to 6x5m, single skin Celcon block with internal insulation. Due to space constraints, I am intending to build adjacent to the boundary and I'll be restricted to 2.5m height. I'm...

Dowels for use with a jig

Thanks for all the advice everyone. I tried the microwave trick, it made a measurable difference to the diameter (about 0.15mm) but still a bit tight so I'm going to make a dowel plate out of some 1/4 inch steel I have spare. Sent from my SM-N960F using Tapatalk
