any experiences with woodford woodworking machinery?

I hadn't made the connection before but you're right, they look just like the Axminster ones and the specs seem near-enough identical, when I hopefully get around to buying a P/T later this year I think based on the apparent performance per pound I'm likely to be placing an order with them...

TS-200 Table Saw Update? New Tablesaw help

Someone is selling a 10" SIP table saw within your budget here, I would have thought from the description it's the 01332 model which is generally very highly regarded in these parts. If I were in the market for a saw right now I'd be snapping that up!

Filter bags for Record DX4000 extractor

To the best of my knowledge, yes. I haven't had to buy any extra for my DX4000 yet but mine just has paper bags that look exactly like those I linked to. A quick call to Record with the model number there should confirm.

Workshop Build - Wood construction or brick?

Right, some info on the portal frame. Dad sourced it from Wareings, who are a company based in Lancashire - http://www.wareingbuildings.co.uk. Apparently they weren't the cheapest around but matched what was wanted the best at the time. The kit was about £6,900 (ordered about 3-4 years ago so...

Filter bags for Record DX4000 extractor

Each motor should have a brown paper filter over it and then both motor assemblies should be covered by an elasticated cloth filter, which is reusable after cleaning/washing. They aren't that hard to find from Record stockists, my local is Yandles which do both...

Workshop Build - Wood construction or brick?

Having helped my Dad build his new garage workshop (36'x30'), I would definitely recommend a portal frame construction with rendered/clad block walls. You can build very quickly in block - a building of that size I would have thought you'd be able to manage a course a day on your own, the frame...

Record Power TS250-RS - assembly, set-up and review

Eric, Regarding panel sizing, I've cut panels up to 8'x2' so far without any real trouble. I will invest in some support stands at some point when I have more large sheet work to do and when I have sorted the cross-cut capability out; at present the projects I'm doing are exclusively on smaller...

Record Power TS250-RS - assembly, set-up and review

Since the initial set up, I've had the chance to play with the saw a bit, so thought I'd document how I'm getting on. One of the problems I mentioned I noticed initially was the squaring frame, which attaches to the sliding beam, wasn't level with the beam and the rest of the table. I have...

Record TS250-RS, which is very capable for the size. My review is here.

    Minimum steel thickness for Magswitches

After much deliberation over the plethora of available products, I've decided to go down the DIY route for my (first) router table. In order to provide clamping to the surface for featherboards etc, I'd like to use Magswitches as I don't have a vacuum clamping system at present (which is less...

Table saw blades - can anybody help with reccomendations?

I have just fitted a 250mm Freud LP40 to my saw and am very impressed, I don't think it's available in larger sizes though - try one of their pro range perhaps?

    Small routers

Have you looked at the Triton JOF001? Looks quite smart (although it doesn't have the handle depth winder of its bigger brothers), is reasonably priced and has a 1/2" collet which the DeWalt doesn't have.

Trying to source a cam clamp

Axminster got back to me with a quote for the pictured clamp of about £90, which would need to be ordered in especially with a 12-16 week wait. Seems like not a really high price for the clamp, but I might try the drill press one instead and see if that will work.

Trying to source a cam clamp

I found a drill press hold down on the Rutlands site, I'm tempted to take a punt on it but there aren't any decent views or info to see if it can be adapted: http://www.rutlands.co.uk/cgi-bin/psProdDet.cgi/DKT15 I might try Axminster also to see if I can buy the clamp separately, good idea.

    Sizing for floor strength

Thanks for all your advice. In the end I fitted extra 4x2 joists, was actually quite easy to rest them on top of the wall although I needed to cut them into two sections to install them and then bolt together. At 16" between centres I then just used chipboard flooring. Given how it all felt...

Trying to source a cam clamp

I bought a Record TS250-RS table saw recently. When crosscutting, I have mainly been using the fence ahead of the stock to be cut, as the geometry of the sliding beam and outrigger support the weight better that way. To improve accuracy and ease of use with larger panels, I'd like to get a cam...

    Holy Moly what a tip!

That's got me thinking - do any industrial machines have auto-sharpening systems available? The reason being that forage harvesters have auto-sharpening blade systems - with the chopping cylinder turning and engine throttled back, a ram pushes a sharpening stone across the blades. An unfilled...

Why are all single phase machines < 3 Kw?

Have you looked at getting a digital 3 phase converter? Not cheap, but almost certainly cheaper than a dedicated 3-phase supply from the utility companies - which will run into thousands to install and extra costs to run as well (separate meter, second standing charge, reduced number of...

Why are all single phase machines < 3 Kw?

240V supplies could easily supply sufficient power with larger cables designed to carry the required currents. However, 3kW is adequate power for a hobbyist grade machine, above that and you're definitely into machines deisgned for professional and industrial use (although no reason why some...

    Sizing for floor strength

I'm not sure how easy it would be to fit extra joists between the trusses, I haven't really looked at the side walls in detail and I can't picture it I'm afraid. I'd rather not have to fit noggings as there are some cables running on the side of the joists that I will need to move (I'm lazy!)...
