    Bench top router table

Whoops, my typo - should read Expert. It's the MR1350K (stock number 45368). I really rate it actually - they are currently selling for £99.99 at Yandles, can't really go wrong especially for the price. As the name suggests it's 1350W, which I find more than adequate for most cutters. I wouldn't...

    Bench top router table

After making a few of Bill Hylton's router jigs, I decided to make a small bench-top style router table using his designs. The idea being that something small-ish and portable won't take up much room in my crowded workshop and will remain useful even when I have something bigger and better...

    Hand Held Power Planer

For jointing the edges of boards, you could always consider a router table. A conventional 24x32" MDF-topped table is much smaller and lighter than a big saw. Portable thickness planers are also small and portable enough for smaller workshop spaces, mount on a workmate or similar when in use and...

Fitting a collet sleeve to a nut

I knew I should have taken some pictures to explain! I've been trying to insert it the same way round as Mick's picture, but from Pete's suggestion it sounds like I've been forcing it from the wrong way - tapered end through the nut, rather than flat end through the nut. The end of the collet...

Fitting a collet sleeve to a nut

Thanks for the tip about the pipe/sleeve over the tapered end of the collet sleeve, I will find something suitable and try that. Rob, when you say that I am trying to put it in the wrong way round - do you mean that I should be first compressing the collet sleeve and then inserting it in from...

Fitting a collet sleeve to a nut

I managed to distort the 1/2" collet sleeve in my Draper router a couple of weeks ago (the "Expert" twin-base one) by over-tightening on a shank that was too small - the diameter inside the sleeve was reduced to the point where there was very significant friction between the sleeve and the...

    cleaning a table saw top

As suggested, 5 mins with scotch brite and some WD40 will work wonders, wipe down with some rags afterward. An occassional application of paste wax such as Liberon lubricating wax will help work glide over the surfaces and should give some protection against recurrence.

    bandsaws! startrite 352?

Linky Try the search facility, it's not that difficult! I'm not a bandsaw man, but the 352 has a very strong following and is well regarded by most who have one. Other members will be able to point you in the right direction on details, setup and use.

    Formica laminate stockists

That's really helpful to know, as I'm passing by Exeter in a couple of weeks time so I could potentially get it from IDS. What do you mean by "issues and requirements for first time buyers", are they trade-only?

    Formica laminate stockists

Thanks for your responses, seems like it's not the easiest of stuff to get hold of. I can get some from Timbmets for £45+VAT per sheet but they order it in - I suspect from Saxon. I'll probably try them. Thanks.

    Formica laminate stockists

I'm looking to get some smooth white-ish formica-type laminate sheet for a router table top and also to fix onto jigs etc. Whereabouts in the Bristol/Gloucester/Somerset area stocks it? I tried Robbins Timber but drew a blank. I can get it for £20 a sheet on eBay, but the delivery is nearly as...

    MY NEW WOODBURNER

With regard to the output ratings of stoves, I have read that they are determined by a calculation assuming a surface temperature of the stove, which subsequently determines the heat convected to the room. There's some useful info on this handy site, which gives a lot more detail and contradicts...

RECORD PT260 problem. Have you got one..........

I had a similar experience with a few missing parts when I bought my table saw from Record. Their support staff were very helpful though and sent the parts out quickly. Good luck!

RECORD PT260 problem. Have you got one..........

I'd be surprised if the micro-switch needs to be engaged by the thicknesser bed being raised, otherwise you'd only be able to shallow plane. The micro-switch should probably be pressed down by the extraction hood which will fit over the cutting block and rest on the infeed table - have you got...

    Flattening planer tables

As they are fabricated out of thin material you will struggle to get them flattened by removal I think, though you might be able to get them surface ground or surfaced in a milling machine with a fly cutter (how they do cylinder heads). Usually fabricated stuff is flattened by heat and force...

    Imperial fasteners

For anyone who needs to get hold of imperial fasteners, I can recommend Stig's fasteners http://www.a2stainless.co.uk/. I needed some UNF countersunk bolts for a custom router base, which were delivered the next day. You can order them individually so no need to buy a massive bag of odd sized...

    New Router Help

Quite a bit, as it so happens. The MOF001 is a 1400W machine. The features are essentially identical to the larger TRB001, now that the above-table winder has been added - it's just a bit smaller, a bit lighter and a bit less powerful. It has sufficient power for most in-table applications, but...

    triton 1400w router advice please

Are you sure about that? I thought it was the other way round. The earlier 2000W routers (TRA001 and some TRB001) don't have the handle, or the modified winder casing which allows the winder handle to be fitted. So if you end up with one of these routers (as I have) then your only option is to...

    triton 1400w router advice please

The spindle locks as you plunge down to full extension, which won't go as long as the switch cover is open. You can use it with an NVR switch and I'd recommend it for the table, but you will have to move the sliding switch cover for bit changes. You could probably bodge the mechanism, but I...

    New Router Help

For a first proper router, I don't think you will go far wrong with the Draper Expert 45368 - don't be put off by the Draper name, it's a good product. It's a bit over your £100 budget, but is about the cheapest decent 1/2" router out there. It comes with both a fixed and a plunge base which is...
