Quick project, Birch ply, Resin and Ipe candle holder.

It was more of a conversion from old English wide chisels into simple scrapers, the steel was excellent, i still use them now, 5 years later.....

I watched about 500 turning videos prior to my first lathe purchase, i even made some chisels, when the lathe arrived i just started making stuff :)

PVA is not the best wood filler, CA is good for small fills, if the wood is dry enough, epoxy or Milliput are good large gap fillers.

For a colourful cheap fill, just shred some napkins and mash them up with epoxy, it's possible to fill pretty large voids with a wide range of colours this way. I sometimes use duct tape to help hold the fills in place.

That is amazing, and the way he goes from raw wood to that shine by just using wax !

For this kind of project, i tend to use sheets of A4 acetate that i can cut into whatever shape i need, i use a hot glue gun to seal it, make sure you use plenty, even a small leak is a disaster.

Maple pot with a Teak and Plywood lid, the finial is hundreds of ' Post it notes ' soaked in resin, all finished with heavy lacquer...fun to make.

Indeed there are templates, this one I kind of made up as I was going along though, general rule, longer equals lower 🙂

The screws were just temp fixings whilst I turned it, the top is glued on and the screw holes filled with toothpicks and glue, cheers
