is this a suitable material for a workshop floor?

Hi Tom, It will make it level! Also hard, cold and bad on the 'ol feet and legs. My advice though, if the budget will stretch to it, would be to put down a few joists (or even just CLS), insulate between them and put some boards down. You can even run your power under the floor if you think...

    Fox Tools

I've just got hold of a Fox benchtop morticer and I can tell you that it's absolutely terrific. The review is in the tool reviews section if you're interested - but if the rest of the range is up to these standards and value for money, we've all had a result! Steve

    The Rutlands experience

Hi people, The Fox is up and running, and if you're interested, the review is under tool reviews. Let's just say it was well worth the wait! Steve

    Fox benchtop morticer

Fox 5/8" Morticer I had to wait some time for this from Rutlands (see the Rutlands Experience in Buying Advice), because, they said, the stock had sold out far quicker than they envisaged. Now that it's arrived and assembled, I can see why. This is a very solid, precise and assured benchtop...

    The Rutlands experience

It arrived today! Still in it's box at the mo - once I've checked it out I'll let you know what it's like. Hope it's been worth the wait! Espedair - thanks for posting the Distance Selling Regs - much appreciated - even if we have been overtaken by events! Steve

    The Rutlands experience

Couldn't agree more. We all know the vagaries of manufacturers and suppliers, and I think most people are prepared to cut a bit of slack as long as they are told what's what. Again - I'll plug Stiles and Bates who not only put stock levels on the site (eg in stock, temporarily out of stock etc)...

    The Rutlands experience

Hi Espedair - and welcome aboard! It's perfectly legal to debit the card as long as the buyer is made aware that the card will actually be debited at the time of the order, and that by pressing 'order' (or 'buy now' or whatever) the card will be debited. Rutlands do in fact make that abundantly...

    The Rutlands experience

Mmm.. mixed response! I've ordered the 5/8" Fox jobby which looks like a pretty good buy: http://www.rutlands.co.uk/cgi-bin/psProdDet.cgi/F14651||@cMorticers@b|0|user|1,0,0,1|6| I must admit to being somewhat intrigued by the Fox range - it really does look good, well priced and just about...

    The Rutlands experience

Verily - Aragorn son of Arathorn! I thought I'd ask - although I'm mightily urinated off with them, I realise it might not be their usual practice. Good to hear you've been happy - I'll keep the faith! Are we saddoes or what? It's half one in the morning and I thought to meself 'I'll just have...

    The Rutlands experience

I placed an order for a morticer from Rutlands on Feb 9th. After 4 broken delivery promises, it's now March 17th and still no morticer in sight. Has anyone had similar experiences with Rutlands, or is this unusual? Steve

    What to get for b'day

Many thanks one and all - it just shows you (or rather me!) how one can labour under a misapprehension for years! You were right Alf - I had things confused. ESP - thanks for taking the time and trouble to put that quote on. Most appreciated guys, Steve

Hi Alf, son of Alf's dad... Funny you should say that. People often question my parentage, particularly my father's role in things... Lord only knows why. Steve, husband of SWMBO

Greetings Aragorn, son of Arathorn... Exactly. That's precisely the point I was trying to make. The difference is, you did it in six lines! Steve, son of George

forum gets bigger, more and more on-lookers

Hi Neil, Couldn't agree more - and I didn't! I wasn't referring to all professionals, I was labouring the point that some amateurs have great skills, and some professionals should hang their heads in shame - ergo, the advice from a professional is not necessarily superior to that of an amateur...

OK - OK - I know I'm soap-boxing, but I just want to make one more point! That's it - I promise! (For now, anyway). I don't know if this get's up anybody else's nose as much as it does mine, but what's this thing about 'professional' and 'amateur'? Why is 'amateur' used so often in a derogatory...

forum gets bigger, more and more on-lookers

Ive just been re-reading this thread, and my experience of this forum is that on the few occasions when something even mildy risky has been advised, there is a strong response from people pointing out that fact. As for 'very poor and downright dangerous' - could you point a couple out to me? I...

Wot a good fred! Can't resist my ten bob's worth here - especially as I spent many years in publishing. This is a forum - by definition it is a medium of free and open discussion and journalists therefore have as much right to make whatever use of it they wish as anybody else, with or without...

    Woddworking machinery and power connectors

Hi Paul, Forgive me if I've misunderstood, but a 13amp supply won't be much use to you. As i understand it, you should make your ring main 40amps so that you can run, say, an extractor (say 13amps), a dust filter (say 8amps) and a machine (13amps) together withought worrying. When they say a 16...
