    Just upgraded to Windows10

Are software updates not the spares parts in that analogy? They're not free to produce at all. Granted third parties are not able to maintain old software to the same extent as old cars due to the way intelectual property las is set up.

    Just upgraded to Windows10

I think expecting 20 years of service for the price of one copy of windows is a little unfair, assuming say £100 for the licence that's just £5 a year. Just because the business as a whole is profitable, doesn't mean they should therefore make a huge loss on windows servicing. Also, you could...

    My new Lotus

Very nice, also that Esprit is awesome. Slightly envious.

    CAT 6, 7 or 8 ?

Why not fibre? Complexity, cost, the fact that everything has an rj45 so you need to convert to copper anyway. For a home network I'm not seeing the advantages.

    CAT 6, 7 or 8 ?

You an attach it, but then it isn't a cat 7 system and is likely to perform much like a cat 6 system but for more money.

Joining plywood to make a bed

    I use 502, no complaints.

Joining plywood to make a bed

I would just use standard wood glue, so of those, Titebond 3. You're going to have huge joining surfaces though, so almost anything will be fine.

    CAT 6, 7 or 8 ?

If I were cabling now I'd put cat 6 in conduit so you can replace it by pulling new cables in the future. Cat 7 is poorly supported and uses different connectors so isn't going to be an easy fit compared to 6.

    TV licence requirements

Correct, any live TV from any source means you need a licence. I've not had a licence for years, I don't watch much TV and what little I do watch is from Netflix or the like.

    Bookcase build / job interview

I have the same spray gun based off Peter's review in his videos. I'm very impressed - I got an excellent finish with very little practice with thinned acrylic eggshell. It really is so straightforward I don't know why I didn't try it before. As mentioned ear defenders and dust mask (I'd also...

    Easiest Blade and Chisel Sharpening

Do you have any evidence that everybody used them and didn't use water stones? Or is "everybody" in this context actually just "you"?

    Easiest Blade and Chisel Sharpening

Water stones date back to Roman times at the least. I'm not sure I'd call that relatively recent. Also DMT were founded in the 70s so there must have been a market for diamond plates at least back to then.

Buying A New Tool? Avoid Mackays of Cambridge

In fairness they don't legally have to refund you - if they want to repair or replace then they have satisfied their obligation under the law (assuming the repair or replacement is of the same quality as a new item should be). Also if they're now doing nothing, you can always get your card...

    Building a tool wall

Make the holes in the plywood first. Then hold the plywood to the wall and tap screws or similar through the holes to mark the wall. You can get a little spray marking chalk that will shoot through holes as well which is good for marking blocks.

    Will this layered finish work?

Why oil and shellac? I'd be tempted to just go for shellac alone.

    Ventilation

Yes I did, but given electricity is about 4 times more expensive than gas, why heat your house with electricity using a dehumidifier when you could heat the intake air using your central heating for less? I'm not sure how getting part of your heat from electricity rather than gas is supposed to...

    Ventilation

Given how much cheaper gas is than electricity, I think I'd rather fire the boiler for a PIV system than run a dehumidifier.

    Why can't I paint ceilings!

A pair of safety specs is handy to stop roller spray getting in your eyes too.

    Career or job

I'm in the same career I've been aiming at since childhood - computer game programmer. I still enjoy it and the pay and conditions are pretty good overall.
