    Airless Spray Finish Issues

I normally sand and then wipe down with a tack cloth and call it good. I can't see that IPA would have a negative effect though. Agreed on the texture, that's not ideal.

Buying a machine on eBay sight unseen with pallet delivery

To be fair, once it gets to court all bets are off. Would really depend on the mood of the district judge. Just one reason it's a bad idea to let things get that far.

    Airless Spray Finish Issues

Are you definitely getting enough paint on those parts, they look a bit thin (though that might just be because they flashed dry)? Maybe try a little water in the paint to avoid it drying too fast? I've had good results with my graco ultra, but I pretty much only spray tikkurila paints so I've...

Buying a machine on eBay sight unseen with pallet delivery

It depends what you mean by enforce. You can't legally force someone to go through with a sale, all you can do is sue for breach of contract which should put the damaged party back to the same position they were in before the contract was entered into. In the context of ebay that would mean...

    Cheap Timber

Yup. It's a mixed bag usually, but you can pick them up and check how bendy they are.

    Cheap Timber

That seems very expensive, 4×2 planed redwood is only £7 a metre at wickes, so about 50 quid for your legs. Not saying theirs is the best, but you can pick through the stack and get some useful stuff.

    Cut off/scrap fever

Most of mine goes for kindling in the woodburner, especially at this time of year. Also hand plane shavings make great firelighters.

Now is the time to buy 150 mm metric Starrett Combination Square

I picked up the cheap 350mm try square mentioned earlier. It's China made and noticeably a bit rougher finished than my combi square (which is a usa made Starrett) but seems just as square. A quick flick with a small file has eased the edges just fine.

    Hardwood buying advice.

I have used Hymor, they were very helpful - helped me pick through the pile (this was pre-covid) and about 60% of the price of my local yard. I was buying Utile which is not super common and they had a decent stock in. From memory I had 6 or 7 8-foot boards in ~160x38mm sawn and they were under...

    CNC engraving or alternatives ?

I have a cheap bendy Chinese cnc it's actually pretty competent for small wood engraving, it really depends how large you want to go with things.

Post a photo of the last thing you made

A fairly big project by my standards came out nicely though. Just need to nail on some skirting board now...

    Shooting board woes

The error is greater than the lateral adjust available on my planes!

    Shooting board woes

Yes the square on the right is new and I checked it when I got it. The other square agrees with it. Also putting both end to end and then laying a straight edge along them shows no discrepancy.

    Shooting board woes

I pulled out my shooting board to trim a few mitres this evening and it didn't seem right. I placed a couple of squares on it and oh dear. I think that needs a little fettling. Or maybe just throwing away and starting fresh.

    Purveyors of coveted items

Not really in the same league as some of the tools here, but I recently upgraded my Wickes own combination square to a Starrett. The difference in feel in the hand and how secure the lock is is incredible. At the end of the day though, they both measure things and are square. I won't suddenly...

    Nails or screws

There's steel and then there's steel. It's a broad group of materials. Nails are going to be mild steel, screws some type of hardened steel, so different material properties are expected.

    Cordless tool options (manufacturer)

I have DeWalt cordless: drill, impact driver, impact wrench (absolute beast at 950 Nm), strimmer, hedge trimmer. I have two 5Ah batteries and that is sufficient for my needs, mostly. The drill goes through bricks without much fuss, it's one of the metal gearbox ones rather than the cheaper...

Joining to slag off a company and then flouncing when people disagree is not the way to use forums effectively.

Laser Measure - which one to buy?

It's this one (actually the older 40m range version). https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01MTB1N81/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_qKtMFbN62YXPD So far as I can tell its laser, but I'm not sure if there's any obvious way to check. To add, I tried taking a measure with the laser covered but the main window...

Laser Measure - which one to buy?

I have a twenty quid job off amazon, it's accurate to the millimetre against anything else I have, so that does me.
