Fine Dust and general dust extraction

They make coarser dust that doesn't get thrown around as much as machine dust. That said I am thinking of some dust management for the hand tools.

Fine Dust and general dust extraction

I always wear an FFP3 mask, goggles and ear muffs when working with machines - it's just common sense. Especailly since my dust extraction is just a vacuum attached to the dust port on the various machines (I only really do a bit of sawing and occasional routing though, mostly I use hand tools).

Fine Dust and general dust extraction

FF stands for filtering facepiece. They are usually half masks, which is all you need for wood dust. The P3 is particle level 3 which is 99%.

Ever saw linseed oil with another oil as an old recipe?

Raw (and boiled) linseed oil are both exothermic when drying meaning they can burst into flames. Additives are not required (though they may exacerbate things).

    How accurate are rulers?

My tape is getting on a bit, there's about 1-2 mm of play there. Has caught me out before.

    How accurate are rulers?

You could have a ruler that measures the first foot as 12.0", then the second foot as 12.1" as an example. In that case, two foot long pieces as measured would not be the same as a two foot piece. If you wanted everything accurate relatively you'd need to take a measurement then scale...

    How accurate are rulers?

I've compared a laser measure and a metal tape and they were to within 0.1mm over a couple of metres.

Is a square really worth £1000

No. Seller has either mispriced or is a real chancer.

    Corian/Minerva/Granite or something else?

Granite is often not much different in price to the synthetic options. Definitely worth pricing them up, you might be surprised.

    recommendations for a printer

I have a Samsung laser, it's been going for about 8 years now. Always prints even when left for a while. Refills are about £20 for a third party one and work fine. I think you've made a good choice.

Dunning Kruger in action Andy.

    Felder PCS/sawstop video

I really don't see the opposition to this. If a company wants to pay extra for this then why not? It's a lot cheaper than having someone off sick because they cut their fingers off. It's a bit like the trend for cars to have autonomous braking to prevent accidents. Yes, ideally people would...

    Firewood Log prices

A firewood supplier is going to be paying rock bottom prices, given the prices firewood goes for. You could probably offer something like £50-100 a cubic metre and still beat them. Even at the top end of that, it's a lot cheaper than sawn Ash would be (typically closer to £1k for a cubic metre).

    Firewood Log prices

Something like £80 per cubic metre. Varies a lot by area.

    Decimal points matter ...

Not sure how imperial helps then, given the smallest unit is a grain? Or are you suggesting that working in fractions is less error prone than decimals?

    Decimal points matter ...

Aren't prescription drugs usually measured in mg, hence no decimals anyway?

Which tools to square small blocks of wood? (Beginner)

If it's small pieces they can be planed square with a shooting board without that much skill surely. Just needs a methodical approach.

    Enviromax

The linked EnviroMax is not low VOC. Top 3 ingredients are all VOCs, comprising about 50% of the mixture. It's also not a meths cleanup - the PDS says it's standard thinners cleanup, which makes sense for a cellulose laquer (which it is; fourth ingredient is cellulose nitrate).

Secure a board to be planed.

I clamp a sash cramp into the vice and the use that to hold the board usually. Allows for full access to the surface of the board without needing holes.
