Cutting 38mm beech worktop with a 1/4’ or 8mm router

Hi guys, I know that a 1/2” router is desirable but what I have to hand is a Festool 1010 router. I need to cut a sweeping radius on the corner of some solid wood worktop. What I am THINKING of doing is this: Making a template from 12mm ply and using it to guide a jigsaw to say 5mm from the cut...

Where to buy wood near Cheddar ...

Thanks for all the replies. Yandles is great as you say for exotics and special woods but i see several makers on youtube using fancy veneered MDF. I never seem to see it. even getting good quality birch ply is tough.

Where to buy wood near Cheddar ...

Hi all, I sort of hijacked a thread in the scrollsaw forum to ask this but I am sure this is where it should be. Where do you buy your wood generally, for example birch ply, oak, good quality and veneered MDF and even softwood? I live in Cheddar and am struggling to find a good timber merchant...

Where do you guys buy your wood?

Hi all, sorry if this is hijacking the thread but can I expand the question a bit more generally? Where do you buy your wood generally, for example birch ply, oak, good quality and veneered MDF and even softwood? I live in Cheddar and am struggling to find a good timber merchant that can help...

    Scandinavian oak dining table refinishing

thanks Andy, just phoned them. I have no doubt about their expertise and their process doesn't effect the glue supposedly. However, big drawback is about £90 per chair.... These chairs and table are quality. Solid oak and must be 30 years old so probably worth it but I balk at £400....

    Scandinavian oak dining table refinishing

This project has now been expanded, not by me...... The expectations from Mrs Oaktree are rather high because, seen from her perspective this is an "easy" job. I was ok with this when the remit was just to refurbish the table top but it has just been expanded to include 4 chairs and the...

    Scandinavian oak dining table refinishing

Hi All, Years ago we bought this table (and Chairs) from a shop that specialised in bringing container loads of used furniture from Scandinavia. Its really solid laminated oak. It has been well used over the years and is now a bit sad. The original varnish is patchy and flaking, the surface has...

    Startrite 352 upper blade guide/support

Thanks for all the Help guys. Alexam, special thanks for pointing in the direction of the instructional vids...more money spent! As regards the blade support, What I have is wood blocks on the lower and what I have shown in the photos on the upper. The upper ones look decently engineered, I dont...

    Startrite 352 upper blade guide/support

Robin BHM, thanks for the useful and thoughtful post. This is my first bandsaw and i followed the general advice on this site and resisted buying a new clone. I am a competent engineer and am looking forward to making something of this. However, your note of caution is understood! John

    Startrite 352 upper blade guide/support

Hi all, This is an ofshoot of my other post here about the 352 I just bought. I confess up front to being a bandsaw virgin an know little about the 352 but I am learning. You can see the upper blade guide in the pics. Its not standard I guess, does anyone recognise it? the only markings on it...

    18v Cordless Drill Advice

Sorry, I am probably wrong in the detail to be honest. The point I was trying to make is that (especially in the USA) the old traditional brand names are not what they were, the names have been sold and the products are not necessarily as they were in quality terms. Brand names are now tangible...

    Startrite 352 collection and inverter

Ian, I take the point about the table. Its not as bad as it looks because I had the machine supported on the frame in transit, not sitting on the table as you see it there, hence the wood blocks in the photo. It survived fine! Actually the machine is in really good condition. I have removed the...

    18v Cordless Drill Advice

I have all Hitachi 18v cordless gear. Its really well made and very easy to use. I just bought the brushless circular saw and its awesome. Bear in mind that Makita, Miwaukie etc are owned by a Singapore based conglomerate and the quality is reducung year on year. There is a Canadian lunatic on...

    Startrite 352 collection and inverter

Well, its collected. As it happens, a Startrite 352 DOES come apart as I discovered when I turned up to collect it. The vendor had already done it. Not sure I would have done it in quite the same way but heigh ho it works and only 4 bolts with captive nuts (plus the electrics and brake lever)...

    Startrite 352 collection and inverter

I am planning on mounting the inverter in an enclosure with a small fan to generate positive pressure inside with a small filter on the suction side. I am (was) a mining engineer and its a technique used a lot in electric cabinets in coal mines. simple but effective.
