My New Table Saw - a KING KC-10RC

I haven’t had a lot of time today but I have done a bit of de-rusting and oiling!

My New Table Saw - a KING KC-10RC

Ok more progress. i Have stripped the casing from the machine and exposed the mechanisms. I am even more impressed now. It’s all really simple and well built. The previous owner from new told me he doesn’t think it has worked more than 10 hours in total and looking at him I believe him. Dilemma...

My New Table Saw - a KING KC-10RC

Moose, thank you for that recommendation which I will follow, it will certainly need another belt and I have used this type of belt before with great success. Thanks. John

New motor for my table saw project

Thanks Clogs. Yes it will work ok, running slower but this saw is a keeper so I want to start off right and the motor is the fundamental part. Thanks for the help. John

New motor for my table saw project

Hi all, in another thread I have been talking about my purchase of an old table saw, sold into the Canadian market in the 90’s. It has a 60hz motor ( plate below). It is a simple machine with plenty of room for modification if necessary. The arbour speed wants to end up as 1450 rpm. It’s a 2hp...

My New Table Saw - a KING KC-10RC

Yes, I think that you are bang on. Having examined it I am confident that it is a really good base for a table saw in a small workshop like mine which will produce very accurate results.

My New Table Saw - a KING KC-10RC

I think, like today, these were imported and badged as many different machines. From what I have seen the quality is much higher and beefier than the Chineseum modern ones I have seen. Interestingly, a Canadian friend tells me that King are not generally regarded for high end equipment now But...

My New Table Saw - a KING KC-10RC

Well, 300 mile round trip and I have it. no problems with the car or charging so a good day all round! it IS very solid and very simple. Both of which I like. The table surface is flat as are the extension wings. The arbour spins really freely and no movement in the bearings. It’s all a bit dry...

My New Table Saw - a KING KC-10RC

Thanks Nick, yes I was aware of the speed reduction but hadn’t thought of cooling. I might just change the motor it’s rWally simple on this machine. It needs Re wiring and an NVR switch and an emergency switch fitting anyway. any suggestions for a suitable 2hp motor welcome

My New Table Saw - a KING KC-10RC

Yes, that might be interesting but clearly essential, may need some help!

My New Table Saw - a KING KC-10RC

I collect it tomorrow. Yes, it is a 5/8” arbour and the online manual I have seen indicates it will take a dado stack AND a moulding head. Not sure how I feel about that but it’s good to know. I will report back when I have it. As an aside, it’s about a 300m round trip which will be the longest...

My New Table Saw - a KING KC-10RC

I have just bought a replacement for my Makita 2704. I used to have an Axminster AW10 and had to sell it because I just couldn’t fit it into my workshop. I have more room now and I have been missing the solidity of a cast iron topped saw. Impulsive as ever I saw this and bought it does anyone...

Axminster AT129PT replacement cutters on Spiral Head

Rightho. Several things arise from this. First a big thank you to Scott and Sargeant. Jester129 is quite right, this is the sort of service and attention to detail that we need. I am not affiliated to them, in fact I have never bought from them (but that will change). I bought the Axminster...

Axminster AT129PT replacement cutters on Spiral Head

I agree. What is the matter with most of our retailers. It just takes a little effort to be switched on to customer’s needs. Well done Scott and Sargeant. In fact I nearly bought the Itech when I was looking for a machine. I ended up with the Axminster one because I stumbled across a really good...

Axminster AT129PT replacement cutters on Spiral Head

Thanks for this. Unfortunately these are the same size but I think are straight edged. Much better pricing than Axminster essentially for the same thing!

Axminster AT129PT replacement cutters on Spiral Head

Yes it’s a logical thought but if you look at the pic I just posted the top cutting (curved) edge fits tight against the location on the drum So it has to be the same shape. A straight on certainly won’t fit but I suspect it doesn’t matter between 100r and 150r

Axminster AT129PT replacement cutters on Spiral Head

Oh and one more moan, Axminster, whom I generally rate, are ridiculously expensive for these cutters. I will certainly go direct to China when I am sure abuot the radius.

Axminster AT129PT replacement cutters on Spiral Head

Hi all and thank you for the helpful replies. The radius issue is on the four cutting faces, not the corners, it’s either 100mm r or 150mm r. Straight edge cutters won’t fit because the back of the carrier has the same curve. you can just see the very gentle curve on the cutting faces in this...

Axminster AT129PT replacement cutters on Spiral Head

Thanks Roy. just another thought to all those who own one of these machines - what came as spares with your machines? the price from a reputable Chinese manufacturer (like Tigra, who made these) is close to $150 for 60 pieces….not £360…!
