Hitch Hikers Guide to The Galaxy - Live

Just putting this back on topic for a second -yes, boring I know- I remember going to see the stage play of The Hitch-Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy at the Rainbow in Finsbury Park many many years ago, where they really were serving Pan-Galactic Gargleblasters during the interval! Watching Zaphod...

    Ultimate buffing system

What??? Call the people you bought if from! We deal with both retailers mentioned and have a great relationship with both of them, but really, this is like buying parts for your car from Halfords and then going into the local garage to ask how to fit them! And anyway, proper kits come with...

    Burnishing / polishing elm burr

I use our Burnishing Cream (of course). T-Cut works but can be a bit too agressive and cut through the sealer/polish/lacquer/oil. Burnishing Cream is safe on all of them. It's good for polishing acrylics, Corian and other stuff too.

    Chesnut products problems x 2

Hmm... not a good day as you say! Most oils suffer from this condition; they react with the air in the can and will start to 'set'. Our standard Finishing Oil will do the same and so will Tung Oil, although the latter is much slower. The solution is to either use it quicker (lol) or as quoted...

    No Ally Pally in 2012

I think habit/history is much of the answer. There have been shows in the Midlands but lack of support from the trade, organisers and visitors (not necessarily in that order) has killed them off, certainly for the time being. Exhibitions are expensive things to take part in for all concerned and...

    No Ally Pally in 2012

I have to say, Ally Pally wasn't exactly central and was, in my opinion, a nightmare to get to! I pitied anyone having to walk up that hill from the train (yes, there were buses laid on but I'm not sure how good they were). Driving into/through London on a Friday is a problem, and engineering...

    No Ally Pally in 2012

A show was held in Maidstone, Kent last year, the South East Woodworking Show, and will be held again this year. The dates have been moved to the same dates as Ally Pally would have been, hopefully this will become a replacement for it. http://www.nelton.co.uk/south-east-wood ... -2012.html I...

    Sanding sealer

To a point, any Cellulose Thinners can be used, but the important thing is that they are of varying quality. It's always best to stick to the same brand. That's 30p a splash; I reckon each 500ml tin has at least 25 splashes in it...;) That's remiss of them not to put that information on the...

    Sanding sealer

Is it unkind to suggest that your friend reads the label on the bottle which would tell him? Anyway, regarding our decision to omit toluene and xylene from our sealers and thinners, it's never 'just' a health/environment thing. both of these (especially the former) are pretty important to me...

    SCOTCHBRITE HAND PAD MAROON

Speaking for ourselves/NyWeb: Green 400 grit Red 600 grit Orange 1000 grit White: Technically non-abrasive (does not contain Silicon Carbide or Aluminium Oxide) but has a very fine/burnishing cut. Order of use as above, giving the acronym 'GROW' and an aide memoire.

    how to stop the bleeding?

Hi all Been away for a few days and have only just seen this thread. Another way of colouring without bleeding (or at least a very significant reduction) is to use our stains to tint either Cellulose Sanding Sealer or Melamine Lacquer, to create a tinted finish. You can add up to about 10%...

    Android Apps

My old phone finally gave up the ghost the other week, so I've gone out and got an HTC Desire. Pretty happy with it so far and have resisted getting loads of games for it. One question though, and possibly looking for a recommendation... Crazily, it doesn't have voice activated dialling, which I...

    Charging a mobile phone

Hi Folks Mobile phones are often the bane of my life... I'm having trouble getting my mobile to charge. I've tried a range of new/different chargers and they don't seem to make any difference. When left on ovenight to charge, the battery will charge for a while (anything from a few seconds to...

    Darkening a clear wax finish?

I don't know much about the Colron product, but I'd suspect it's intended to maintain an existing colour rather than change it. From our range, I'd suggest the WoodWax 22 Mellow Brown to give a darker colour; whether it'll be as dark as you want I can't say, but it'd be worth trying it first in...

Oil finish for Oak (dinner trays)

Can I just check in on this..? I'd assume a dinner tray to be something you put on your lap and then put a plated meal on, not something you eat off directly. Am I wrong? If not, then the food safety aspect of it is a red herring and I'd agree with Chas's suggestion for durability and cleaning up.

    Darkening a clear wax finish?

I'd have thought a dark wax would have made some difference, but it can depend on what type you used. Was it a wax designed to colour the wood at the same time (such as Briwax and our WoodWax 22) or just a dark furniture wax?

Problem using buffing wheel to apply carnuba wax

Sorry to continue the hijack... 'advance' Dome Buffs have been available at shows and they should be available to/from shops by the end of the month! Hoo-blooming-ray! (And what's the current hold-up you ask? Waiting for samples of packaging for the mops, the sleeving we use at the moment...

    Politicians - Joke

For clarity, to avoid being accused of playing wordgames and because there's nothing to be ashamed of among a myriad other reasons. I didn't say politicians are open and honest, I'm no fan of any of them, just that we'd prefer them to be that way. It seems ironic that this one is open and...

    Politicians - Joke

I'd largely agree, but ideally b. should be 'there's no reason they need to know' which would only be valid if c. was always true; sadly, this isn't the case, some people (obviously not on this forum) think that there is something wrong with being gay and that 'hiding/not disclosing' it only...

    Hows it going in Harrogate?

It was very busy today, had a great day with lots of interesting visitors to our stand today. To be honest we're shattered! Looking forward to another enjoyable day tomorrow, hope we'll see some of you there!
