Best way to remove new wax finish ?

No, the two are perfectly compatible or as Nick Agar put it, they're mates and don't mind sharing the same wheel!

Best way to remove new wax finish ?

You can buy 'dewaxing/degreasing' solvent which would do the job very well, but it's evil stuff and not always easy to obtain. A slower and probably messy way of doing this would be with white spirit, this will soften the wax but it will still need some encouragement to come off. Are you sure...

For friends and supporters of Chestnut Products...

Thanks from me as well Mike, I should have mentioned that; I'm not a great fan of Facebook, it has it's uses but is usually abused, so we deliberately set our page up (and it's useful for putting out information quickly) so that anyone can see it, without having to join Facebook or even liking...

Woodcraft Weekend at National Botanic Gardens, Wales

I'm hoping it won't be a one-off, Kim should certainly be snapped up by clubs for demos, I'm certainly hoping to be able to entice him away to work with us again!

Woodcraft Weekend at National Botanic Gardens, Wales

Glad you enjoyed yourself Kim, you certainly had a crowd round you all day! Looking forward to day 2, thanks for all your help. Shame we won't be seeing you Chas but I can echo what Kim says, the roads were dreadful this morning...and I only had a short journey.

    Bristle mop for wax?

Hmm.. the oldest price list of ours I can find at the moment is for 2001 and the price for the Domed Brush was £24.50 then, with VAT at only 17.5%. I don't think they've ever been that low in price to be honest, but it's a good indication of how long they last! We work very hard to keep the...

    Bristle mop for wax?

There are a few advantages to using the polishing brushes; the main one is that they take a lot of the elbow grease out of the job. The bristle (which is a natural fibre specially chosen for the job) is coarse enough that it removes any surplus wax and buffs it at the same time. This results in...

    Cellulose sanding sealer over shellac?

Our Melamine Lacquer is cellulose based (but it's not acetone) and it won't be compatible with shellac. The solvent in it will attack the shellac and you'll end up with the mess you were trying to avoid. As Chas has suggested, a better route would have been stain, sealer then lacquer, hindsight...

    polishing and buffing machine(s)

The Drum Brush is ideal for flat surfaces, the Drill Polishing Brush better for spindles as the bristles 'mushroom' out when spinning. The Dome Brush is a good all-rounder, one of the beauties of these is that the bristles will remove any surplus wax to give a very bright finish but a thin coat...

sanding sealer going off too quick in this heat

Whilst true, (think of how oil and petrol evaporate), thinning the sealer will make it easier to spread although it will still dry quickly. And Kim is quite right about the relative quality of thinners... you'll only regret buying cheap when it ruins the job you've spent ages preparing...

    polishing and buffing machine(s)

You might want to have a look at our Polishing Brushes made for buffing wax. Some of them go into a standard drill and do the job perfectly. http://www.chestnutproducts.co.uk/results.php?cat=Polishing%20Brushes I know some of the folk here have them so hopefully one or more of them will be able...

    waxed pine

Wax is a pretty good 'non-stick' surface and (in relative terms) soft so it wouldn't be advisable.
  18. Terry Smart

    waxed pine

If the item is already waxed then about the only thing you can put on top of it is more wax; the sealer is unlikely to take unless the surface is stripped back. Putting Microcrystalline Wax or even our WoodWax 22 on it will bring up a good shine and even if it goes dull after a while a buff up...

Will Chestnut Spirit Stain be compatability with Oil Varnish

Spirit Stain doesn't contain cellulose, but it is a suitable dilutant for it in the absence of Spirit Thinners. As said, once the solvent has evaporated there would be no problem; applying a cellulose product over an oil would be asking for trouble.
