Good gloss on veneered dashboard advice

Hi Chris Good comments, thanks; I'd assumed that the preparation work had been carried out and that after six coats the surface of the lacquer would form a sufficient barrier to prevent the situation you describe, although I'd be interested to hear if you have experience to the contrary. I'm...

Good gloss on veneered dashboard advice

Hi again Pete and Philly I'd tend to agree that the material isn't quite dry yet, although after that period of time it should be. I'd worry about the last coat (or two) being a little thicker than inteneded, which can cause a lacquer to surface dry but remain 'wet' (probably a very firm...

Good gloss on veneered dashboard advice

Hi Pete I wouldn't recommend applying cellulose over acrylic, chances are the solvents in the cellulose would strip the acrylic. Can you give me some more information about the lacquer you've used. Is it our aerosol one? Some info on application and method would also be useful.

    Heads-up. French mistake at Wickes????

Hi Sam Valid points, but there must be a mechanism in place to cover genuine mistakes which are not spotted at the till. After all, we're talking here of a mistake to the benefit of the buyer. Mistakes can occur both ways such as where an article is priced on the shelf at one price but goes...

    Heads-up. French mistake at Wickes????

I think that was a bit harsh, Signal, a small amount like that could be down to competitive pricing! I would have thought in a case like that the vendor would have swallowed hard and put it down to experience... although I wonder what the threshold amount is that makes it worth going after?

    Heads-up. French mistake at Wickes????

Hmmm... I think I might get branded as a killjoy for this, but anyway... Wicke's would, I believe, be able to claim the difference from any buyers after the event as this is so obviously a mistake and the buyers are taking unfair advantage of it by expoliting a silly error. There was a case a...

    Axminster SATURDAY Meet-Up

Hi Guys Feel free to use the area around our stand as a meeting point, I've no problem with that (so long as you don't prevent the hordes of people heading to our stand to spend their hard earned money from doing so! ;) ). And don't forget to come and say hello too, I might not be able to...

Tools '04 - Thursday meet up

Hi Guys You're more than welcome to invade the area near our stand, we should be in the same place as last year which means we'll have a large space near some fire doors by our stand, tailor made for such meetings! Ours will be the crimson coloured stand in case you can't find it, with a big...

    Address book

I'd agree with all the above. Quite possibly your friend reformatted his drive, re-input his email details and got the reply address wrong. When you hit the 'Reply' button it uses the address he has input and if that is wrong, the mail will bounce back. As advised, hit the reply button and...

    Finishing engraving ?

Hi again The choice of colour depends on the stain you're using. If it's a 'rainbow colour plus' then clear is ideal; if it's a wood stain you might want to use a tinted wax to add extra tone to the colour. If the colour is as you want it then stick with the clear, it's a more universal choice...

    Finishing engraving ?

Flattery will get you everywhere! Using the wax really shouldn't be a problem; assuming it's ours (most others are similar but avoid the ones designed for furniture use only, they're too slow drying) the trick is to apply the wax with a soft brush, then polish up soon after (about 30 seconds)...

    France

Hi Scott We have a stockist in France, their details are as follows: PHILBOIS MACHINES 47, BD, BERNARD DE TRANS 83300 DRAGUIGNAN PH: 0033 494 68 82 32 FAX: 0033 494 68 81 89 EMAIL: [email protected] I saw their catalogue some years ago (we don't deal with them very much sadly) which was...

    flaming foamy poly!

Hi Steve The simple answer to your questions is 'yes'! There is obviously a fine line between putting too much on the brush and not enough, it's something you will come to recognise, but hopefully these suggestions will set you on the right track. Again, good luck and let me know how you get on!

    flaming foamy poly!

Hi Steve Not sure why you're getting this problem, we usually promote the Foam Brushes to cut down the amount of frothing! Couple of questions to ask... Are you charging the brush well with the poly? The more there is on the brush, the less air there can be which might help cut down on the...

    Woodworking Show Information

Oh boy, don't get me started on exhibitions! If you think about it, the £6 admission fee is pretty good value for money when you can spend seven hours at a show; compare that to £5 to see a film which lasts three hours if you're lucky. And don't forget it is quite possible to pay your £6...

    Stoneleigh Show

'only'??? There goes my ego! :? Seriously though, thanks to all of you who came over and said hello, was nice to put some faces to opinions. Hope you all enjoyed the show, it all went very well for us apart from selling out of a few things, which is a double-edged sword and really means I got...

    Stoneleigh Show

Well folks, this show is very nearly upon us. In fact this is probably the last time I shall look at the forums before departing to set the stand up ready for Friday's opening day. Okay, more honestly, that should be 'set some of the stand up and finish it just after the show opens'! There's...

Mobile Phones - Am I missing the point?

lol! Although I must confess I was confused at first when I went to Germany a couple of years ago and they asked me if I had my 'handy' with me... I'll leave you to work it out, remembering the topic line here! oh... and 80% of people possibly only want 20% of the features! The rest could be...

Mobile Phones - Am I missing the point?

thanks guys... can a chicken be cute? And I think you have a good plan there Noely, with free upgrades (or replacements in your case) it's not a bad plan to renew them on an annual basis to prevent the frustration (said through gritted teeth!) of being away from base for the first time in ages...

Mobile Phones - Am I missing the point?

Somewhere on this illustrious site is a picture of me talking on a mobile phone, the irony of which is that I'd had to borrow the phone as mine had chosen that weekend to pack up. So, I went out to buy a new one. The display in the shop was impressive and the choice quite considerable, so I...
