    Matching Teak Finish

Hi Paul Matching the colour might not be easy, depends how lucky you are, but is 'just' a case of applying stain. What would be helpful would be to know what sort of finish (ie lacquer, wax) has been applied. Do you want your item to be glossy, matt, somewhere in between?

    Matching Teak Finish

Hi Paul Some more information please. Do you need to change the colour of the piece you're making? The items you already have, do you know what sort of finish is on them? If not, could you describe the finish (not an easy task I know)?

    What finish for Walnut ?

Speaking about the finishing part only... (I don't feel informed enough to comment on other parts, but what has been said certainly makes sense to me) Finishing Oil likes to penetrate the timber it is applied to so applying it to a veneer will mean that you'll have to apply very thin coats...

    Limed Oak

The advice given above is sound and I'd like to make an additional suggestion; as this is going to be for a kitchen, perhaps a Finishing Oil used over the Liming Wax might be harder wearing. There is an issue here that the Finishing Oil might discolour the Liming so some experimentation first...

    What finish for Walnut ?

Hi JFC I wouldn't recommend a wax for use in a bathroom (we must get round to producing a protective overcoat for wax!) as it will watermark with any splashes that get on it. Instead, I'd suggest perhaps an oil finish which will be very easy to apply and give you water resistance or a lacquer...

    Market research (again!) - Glues

From time to time we are asked for superglues and the like; they do go well with our current range and we're thinking about adding them. Anyone got any thoughts about them.. what type to supply, bottle size, shape of bottle etc? (We're still working on the shellac flakes... nearly there - I...

International Woodworking and Turning Exhibition, Stoneleigh

Hi All Just wanted to say it was nice to see so many of you at the show (whether customers or not!). It was just a shame there weren't more visitors this year... or even exhibitors. There were definitely a number of gaps there this year. See some of you at Tools 2005!

Am I overreacting or whose to blame?

I've had occasion this week to say to someone... carriers are the weakest link in the supply chain. If I made a posting every time carriers let me down I'd be here every week with one problem or another. It is shoddy service and it's very frustrating for us as suppliers; I rushed a parcel...

International Woodworking and Turning Exhibition, Stoneleigh

Hi All Just loading the van (terrible job, especially knowing that we'll be unloading it tomorrow!) for the above show... not sure how many of you are coming along but hopefully we'll see some of you at our stand around midday? We're trying out a new stand layout too, so any comments welcome!

    Pre-cat lacquers

Information on spray guns isn't my strong point, but yes, pre-cats can be brushed (our Melamine Lacquer is a pre-catalysed lacquer), might need a bit of thinning depending on the size of the area to cover (use Cellulose Thinners) but I'm not sure about using a pad with them. Would probably work...

    Chestnut Shallac Sanding Sealer

Hi Waka You should only need one coat of Sanding Sealer; so long as you're only applying wax over the top of it you can put a second one on if you really feel the urge, but the first coat will do the work! Hope this helps Terry

    Woodworking workshops in France

I'm sorry that this is sooooooooooo far off topic... Brian, have a look around http://www.abd.org.uk - there's some interesting stuff on there as well as a good selection of these signs. I'll be changing my avatar back later to our logo... but not just yet a while. Terry

    HVLP enquiry.

My apologies, I stand corrected! That'll teach me to post about something when my information is out of date! Sorry all!

    Where's the added value?

As a manufacturer, I sympathise with all of the comments above. We have a strong policy of not supplying our products direct to the user, preferring instead that customers go to one of our stockists. We do this as we don't want to be in competition with our stockists and see this support as an...

    Yandles Woodworking Show

Goes without saying that I'll be there, hope you'll come and see me and if you all want to have a meet at my place (although I'm not sure where that will be, you'll have to come searching for me!) at about midday as usual please do.

    HVLP enquiry.

Hi Gary From what I remember of spray equipment, you'll need to change all of your kit! The compressor will be replaced by a turbine unit, the hose by one with a larger bore and the gun by a special HVLP type. Makes me wonder why you want to change at all!? Terry

    Help with proposed finish

Hi Trev Philly's right (of course), our White Stain was developed mainly as a 'mixer' to go with our other colours to give pastel shades. It can be used in its own right, but the effects can vary a lot due to several factors, not least because the pigment in the white stain has trouble staying...

    Waxing/black lacquer

Hi Where you refer to a 'natural colour' do you mean a clear wax? There are several available and of course I'd recommend our WoodWax 22 Clear which will not change the colour of the original wood. We have coloured waxes available too, from light brown to a dark brown, although if you're...
