    chuck

Hi Tony, I am having the same problem. The Nova G3 http://www.peterchild.co.uk/osc/lathes- ... 22_75.html seems the best for my needs, and it comes with 3 sets of jaws, for about £115 all inc. There are extra jaws to be had that are interchangeable with the G3, and prices vary if you shop about...

    Long shot but....

An old method of bending copper pipe was to tightly pack it with sand, and bend it round a pin of radius required. Or: find a spring to replace the sand but can be a pain to remove spring after. Good luck.

    Pen turning advice

I am using a large pillar drill, with the blank gripped between a v block and t'other side gripped by v in the vice, I did have vice resting on wood blocks to gain height. which did wobble a bit. I'll try with drill table at correct height and without wood blocks. The drill bit is a 7mm lip &...

    Pen turning advice

Has anyone used 'no nails' to glue the brass tube into wood or acrylic ? I've drilled a few pieces and am surprised at what a sloppy fit they are. I used the supplied 7mm drill in Rutlands pen kit. Tried with pilot hole first then 7mm but still sloppy I've seen on youtube that some guys prefer...

Help with brushable "Hamerite" paint please

I'm pretty sure that paint manufacturers sell it, cos I've got a 5litre tin of it. Must have got it years back from Shipley Paint, aka Manor Coating Systems. We used to thin fast drying enamel paint by mixing with xlene so we could use in spray guns, never had any problems. I do remember mixing...

Has anyone tried using a surface grinder?

Your chisel sharpening or any tool sharpening will only work if you can keep the workpiece cool, either with liquid or air, as the heat generated will soften the metal. OR re temper the workpiece when done. Sorry to bring bad news, but I've sharpened a loadsa tools on a surface grinder and...

Any opinions on Axminster's new evolution chuck?

I'd guess it is because of the factories schedule of works, though in this day n age turnaround needs to be tighter, or people go elsewhere.

Any opinions on Axminster's new evolution chuck?

Tyvm for the link Mick, downside is that Record charge a tenner for p+p (so G3 total = £120, whereas Peter Child have G3 at £110+£4.50 p+p, so total =£5.50 cheaper; for orders over £120 p+p is free. My wood turning is a hobby only so I am struggling to justify spending £115 on a G3, and the...

    Lock Spring

I've dabbled a bit with these springs also. I tend to keep a few bits of spring steel for broken locks etc. A cheap source of spring steel (ss), used to be the blue steel strapping used for palletised goods, though I aint seen any for quite a while. Some coil springs can be had from old...
