Another of my recent rusty purchases. I have never heard of this make before. When I Googled "Kay-Bee vice" it came up with links concerning other types of vice altogether. The jaws are 2" wide and are not removable. The screw is a "V" type rather than square or ACME.

We have all heard of Frankenplanes but this appears to be a Frankensaw, made of parts from at least three saws. I found it in a second hand tool shop as a bundle of bits. Both the uprights are stamped “W. Marples & Sons Sheffield Eng.” but their distances from mortice to blade are different...

I didn't know that Wolverhampton was involved in plane making. I enjoyed looking at the website and was interested to discover information about the makers of this rule in the printing section of the virtual museum:

I found that I have another Atkin plane but the stamp on it says "Atkin & Son late W, Moss" so presumably it is an early one as only one son was involved.

Or, if you have a flat surface and another square you trust, you could check it like this. Better still, if you have two additional squares you could use this way to check that all three test true against each other.
