    Record Disc sander

I have the record 0” disk sander, the discs when they do stick are a real pain to change over. They leave so much residue on the disc you spend longer cleaning the disc than sanding. Far better is to get a 10” hook and loop disk off eBay, stick that to the sander plate and then use hook and...

    Old Chisels: Any good?

My thoughts as well. I don’t have a full set of them, but the three I do have identical to those take a superb edge and the 3/4 one now has a blade three inches long it’s been used and sharpened so much.

    Winter storage, wax on tools?

I spray GT85 on all my iron work. Spray, light wipe, no problems. Lathe bed, Mortimer, bandsaw all still have perfect beds and tables. Even if there is sawdust on them, it soaks into the dust and protects the metal underneath. smells nice too, workshoppy kind of smell. 🙂

    My Garden Room Build - 9m x 4m

Ok, I assumed your title dimension meant you had more than 30sqm internal. However, even though you have made adjoining parts predominantly non combustible (a condition of building regs for buildings greater than 15sqm and less than 30sqm internal if closer than 1m from boundary), the fact that...

    Sorby Pro Edge Coarse Belts

This site also sells belts designed for pro edge ant lists them at 50x785. I’ll see if I’ve got a worn out one, cut it and measure.

    Abandoned car

Correct, the SORN is off road notice, as long as it’s on private land, not adopted highway, you’re fine.

    Britain's Best Woodworker

To my mind you sculpt a sculpture, therefore I didn’t feel Radah or MustI even met the brief Despite Radah’s sculpted pigeon. Billy’s lion was so over optimistic for a two day challenge, but I thought he made a fantastic effort for the time given, it was in brief and deserved to keep him in...

    116 0r 118mm hole saw

If you’re going down the non hole saw route, I’d mark it out and use a pad saw, a jigsaw on material too flexible for a hole saw will never produce a round hole.

    Kapex KS60

Hi all can anyone who has a KS60 advise me on a couple of points. 1) are the two (or one even) pull out bed extensions totally removable? 2) if they are removable, what is the width of the bed without them. I realise the rear fence may extend over the sides, that’s not a problem. I wish to set...

    My Garden Room Build - 9m x 4m

How did you manage to get it exempt from building regs? It’s over 30sqm and less than a metre from the boundary and has running water. Any of these could put it in building regs territory, let alone all three.

    Workshop flooring ideas?

Works for me as well. I have several bits of heavy kit including a 330kg Jet lathe and there is no deflection or vibration. Definitely 22mm and D4 glue to all the joints laid over a polythene vapour barrier on top or under the celotex. If you’re having a bench in the middle of the room, lay an...

    Yandles appreciation post 😁

I hate going to Yandles. I start off wanting to just pop in, pick up a single piece of oak board and go home. Simple. Oh no, they have so much stock in the wood yard and barn I end up collecting three or four boards of various species, by the time I’ve lugged them through the shop, there’s...

Using flashing tape as roofing material

I’d definately use fibre cement slates. Light, cheap, long lasting, looks good. Can be nailed or stick on.

    Small Modern Shed Build

Did you add insulation in the wall panels? There was no rush to put OSB on inside as you could have just put the membrane on the outside to weatherproof it in a couple of hours. nice steady build though.

    Carter stabilizer

I have the Jet JWBS16 saw and have been try to source bearing guides since I purchase it. The 16” utilises two discs, a dire system compared to the bearing setup supplied on the 14” and 18” saws. Unfortunately, those don’t fit the 16” and Carter’s don’t do a set despitethe saw being available...

Which cordless system are you going with..if any?

I’ve gone the Dewalt route completely, 2 drills, 2 drivers, jigsaw, grinder, multi tool, laser level and finder, second fix gun, and radio. Sometimes I’d wised I’d gone down Makita route, as some of their bare tools are considerably cheaper than DW versions, but I’m not going into the two system...

    Pump voltage

Thanks, I’ve sorted a pressure switch that will control a 240v AC coil relay. Off the relay I can take a no volt make break to the VFD terminals that I can use at present with no volt switch. A little more convoluted than the direct switching that you could do, but will work perfectly well for...
