    New workshop for 2020

Hi Mike Solid as a shed this size really should have a sold floor not suspended (I believe) and no concrete only because a premix lorry cant access site without an expensive pump or me taking down part of the front wall. Looks like concrete is the way you're advocating, if so is it viable to...

    New workshop for 2020

Two reasons for planning, the first is our estate in built on Duchy of Cornwall land, there is a clause in the original planning in 1997 that all ‘permitted development’ rights have been stripped, in perpetuity, this was the first point made by the planning officer on Friday. There is to be no...

    New workshop for 2020

Thanks for the comments Mike. I take your point about it now being a retaining wall in essence. Using brick courses (Engineering?) instead of blocks Is not a problem for levels but still acts as a retainer though. No trying to avoid digging as such, just trying to have a solid floor rather...

    New workshop for 2020

Well, the time has come to embark on the new workshop build. I have been for pre-planning and have been advised that I have a very high chance of acceptance, he could see no reason to refuse permission based on their criteria. It will be built from the side of my house into the dead space on...

    Which 1/2 router? My first!

If you ever intend putting it in to a router table, check out the Triton TRA001 as it has height adjustment from above the table, a superb feature worth buying it for that feature alone. If it’s always going to be hand held, the Makita is a steady workhorse.

    Aldi wine

Before Magners closed the pressing plant for Cider apples at their production site in Shepton Mallet, the pressed juice of thousands of tonnes of Somerset apples was shipped to their plants in Ireland to make Cider.

    Yandles - poor experience

I live within an unhealthy (for the wallet) driving distance of Yandles and have always found them very good with customer service. If you purchased anything from Amazon, all you need do is log in to your account and click return item. You won’t have any carriage to pay and you will get...

    a 1st chainsaw

I have a 1.5 acre back garden and have used my Stihl MS 181 C-BE for the last three years. Perfect for all by general use, coppicing and ground tree work. It’s ergo easy start as well. Not the cheapest, but it will outlast me, unlike my Ryobi, which was a pig to start and was shot of after a...

Another new house new workshop build.

Oh arse, I thought with the rock wool insulation and fire grade plasterboard inside I might have complied. Will put the plans in for permission in January and see what transpires. I’ve a bit of time as I’m reliably informed the new kitchen takes first priority, and while that is in its order...

HVLP or other sprayer advice please

All the woodwork will be brush painted undercoat and finish coat. I only want the sprayer for the vast amounts of white emulsion, ceilings and walls. Probably top coat wall colour as well.

    Festool RO150 for sanding veneer?

The Bosch is nowhere near similar, this is though. Metabo 615050000 240v 150mm SXE 5.0BL https://www.ffx.co.uk/tools/product/Met ... nder--350W Still around £300 but excellent.

HVLP or other sprayer advice please

Thanks so much. I hate ceilings at the best of times, the thought of doing a whole house full with sealer coats, first and second Coates filled me with dread. I usually do a white coat on walls to kill previous colours, so I can see this being a very useful tool. Do every thing to undercoat...

Post a photo of the last thing you made

Just found my pictures of the cake stand and wedding card post box I made for step son’s wedding earlier this year. Theme was woodland rustic. The cake stand is natural edge oak slab, Hawthorne branch and Sycamore cake boards. The post box is 24” high 12” diameter Sycamore hand hollowed to...

    Jet JDP-17FM Pillar Drill Manual

Will do when I get back home. My guard isn’t like that either, it’s a red semicircular one. It’s the manual that came with it though.

    Festool RO150 for sanding veneer?

I had the Rotex 150 and sold it on after 12 months and bought the Mirka Deros 150. The Mirka may not be the beast for rapid removal, but for absolutely everything else I find it beats the Rotex hands down. It’s half the weight of the Rotex and the speed control is better. The paddle switch took...

HVLP or other sprayer advice please

Hi AJB Have you tried the Graco at home in real conditions yet? I’m just about to move and every ceiling is going to be skimmed, all the walls in 8mx4m rooms 5 5mx4m rooms, all empty, a large workshop, to paint white inside before occupying. I’m also thinking the Graco GX FF purely emulsion...
