The noise after firing is quite loud whilst it whines away for a few seconds. The spring-loaded clip thing at the end of the handle is a hook to hang the nail gun on a joist. Swing it 180 degrees out and it then slots over a 6x2 joist or rafter. Comes in handy occasionally. Try swapping the...

    New workshop for 2020

Whilst the door is in glue up, I thought I had a bit of down time to start the drawer system. The first sixteen 2.5inch made and fitted, will add the drawer fronts in one go so the grain flows from a single sheet. Whilst the saw is setup I’ll finish the two larger drawers in each cabinet. The...

Well shiver me timbers, still can’t see a standard nail gun nail being anywhere near as strong as a sherardised twist. Must be good enough though.

You won’t be nailing jiffy hangers with it, they should have twist nails hammered in. Twist nails are a totally different nail and made especially for the hangers. You couldn’t accurately fire a nail though a hole anyway. For framing 90mm ring shank, 11mm OSB I used 63mm ring shank, I only...

DBT85s Workshop - Moved in and now time to fit it out

I have installed a Milek curtain heater, which also has a fan only setting, remote control and timer. Works very well, but will need sub zero outside temp to test its mettle. Windows aren’t too bad to make if you can get hold of window frame and opening light profiled timber, if not, don’t...

Laguna tools, new to UK market

I ran my own computer repair business for twenty years before retiring three years ago. The advice I was given from the get go was that if the customer didn’t wince when I told them the cost of repair, I’d not charged enough. At the beginning I was running eight repair bays non stop...

DBT85s Workshop - Moved in and now time to fit it out

Sprayer took thirty five minutes a coat :D , cracks and all painted, no neck ache. Almost worth hiring one for a day. You can do the two coats in one day. Think the eight lights in that space will be super bright 8) 8) 8) . I have four in that length and it’s probably overkill. Might be...

    New workshop for 2020

Spent a couple of days finishing off the bench build. Tops are joined and fitted to the supports, lipped with mahogany and sealed with three coats of polyurethane varnish, denibbed, waxed and buffed. Water and waste is connected to the sink, and have been gifted fifty Metro tiles to put around...

Single phase bandsaw , on / off switch Rep,acement

Your original looks like my old Jet Pillar drill switch that failed twice. It would only work if the button was held in. The NVR side relay died each time. I had to get the replacement from Germany. I think is was a KJD11. I ended up replacing it with a non NVR switch and making a face plate...

Nice looking job, well done. =D> =D> My bruises lasted for a week, back of legs and cheeks so sore it was difficult to sit at night. Don’t know how roofers do it day after day, I was glad to see the back of that job. All down hill now.

    New workshop for 2020

No problem you’re welcome. The firedoor blanks are new, I only bought two, but I have been given loads of ‘offcuts’ many are 2440mm long 400mm wide so perfect for the left hand bench construction which will be 400mm. I have had to commit a bit of time to the garden for a couple of days, but...

Just looked again at the finished side, if you’ve got half hour to spare this afternoon, the hedge could do with a trim, the birds have fledged by now. :D (That’s the way my Mrs thinks)

There’s three more doubles on that wall out of shot  including one above the tall cabinet to power the radio. I can’t work anywhere without the radio on. In total there are twenty seven doubles and three fused outlets. As the sparky said on Tuesday “ you’ve got more sockets in here than...

    New workshop for 2020

I have to balance off the work to be done with the facilities available at any given time to do the work. So continuing the fit out, I have started the construction of the right hand side benches. I do not have the setup yet for a lot of sheet material work, so I decided to base it on kitchen...

    New workshop for 2020

Hi Westwood I used a first fix nail gun with 51mm ring shank nails, this is the recommended fixing method, there is no need to predrill, and it certainly works. On the first course, I pre drilled with 3mm HSS drill and hand nailed half way in initially to give me the option of adjustment of...

DBT85s Workshop - Moved in and now time to fit it out

Looking a smashing job there. I certainly put my ridge on as I did the tiling. When it came to a point a ridge tile could be fitted, on it popped. Makes for a nice looking roof doesn’t it? A lot more expensive than sheet roofing, and more work to instal, but what a difference in looks...

Plodding progress, but progress none the less. You’ll have it wrapped at the weekend. What are you going to screw the ridge tiles to? There’s no central batten, unless there’s one under the membrane.

    New workshop for 2020

Have ordered Two sheets of 12mm ply now for the drawers, 18mm cabinet sides 6mm bottoms. I’m going to have a go at the 1/4 1/4 1/4 method of drawer construction. In total I shall be making 34 drawers, 136 corner joints. Hoping to batch produce them after the first trial one. Should really make...
