    Jet Washers

I have the Karcher K7, total electronic power control as well as the flow control with the trigger. Rated for continuous use. Decent power for sure.

    Jet DC1100 NVR

The Jet DC1100 certainly never used to have a NVR switch. It was one of their selling points that it was an optional extra for remote control. How old is yours as the Jet site up to 2018 lists it as no NVR switch? how did you manage to tape in the switch if it is NVR? I’ve had my DC1100 for...

    Struggling

That spanner is what goes onto the Chuck, not to lock the spindle. with that, you engage spindle lock (assuming you have one) or put spanner on spindle flats. Put the pin of that tool into the Chuck key hole and give the handle a sharp tap.

Workshop layout - opinions / expertise

She says as soon as they saw what came out they went and broke it, but your probably right, can’t make a perfect casting from an imperfect mould. The rest of the world seems to have coped with me for 60+ years, it’s only her struggling to cope.

    Struggling

Your chisel set is identical to the set of six I bought when I started seven or eight years ago. today they retail at about £150 the set. They are a really decent starter set, I still use all of them as my go to chisels, especially the skew, it takes a razor edge, and large as it is, I make all...

sanding discs plus stick on velcro backing

This will convert your stick on disk or ply disc to hook and loop. there are a lot of hook and loop discs around. or thish one is a disc rather than two strips and has sanding discs as well

    Struggling

I believe this is the best advice for Chuck removal. Removing a snapped lock pin will be no fun. Where the pully is mounted to the shaft, there will probably be a pair of flats, use the biggest, lumpiest, spanner or adjustable you bad fit on it, then use the wood through the chuck jaws locked in...

    Free Helping Hand?

Kudos to you Bailey. You have a wonderful life attitude and work ethic. I too can’t help with your experience now, it would have been a superb learning experience for you with my workshop build this year, the tips, tricks and knowledge of forty five years of wood working and carpentry I’d have...

    Very Small Wood Lathe Recommendation

First off, what’s the total budget? You will spend as much on extra equipment as the lathe, so it would be good to know a ball park figure.

    Which Festool sander?

I think you’ve settled on the Festool for finishing but I ditched mine in favour of the Mirka Deros. I found the Festool far harder to control with fin sanding and finishing. the Rotex 150 is the beast for serious coarse sanding. I do like festool products, but don’t think that their version...

New Workshop - Roof Now On

Main workshop 3.9m wide x 7.4m long with back room 2.9m x2.2m to hold extractor, sink, compressor and metal working bench with welder underneath. This keeps noise, grease, flamey 🔥 stuff and dust collection out of main workshop, the layout works a treat. dust extraction is operated by micro...

    Kirsty’s homemade Christmas

Also n the introduction, Kirsty said she was frightened of the lathe and things coming off and hitting her in the face. When she asked expert Ruth if that ever happened to her, she said ‘often’. At that point I’d have been running the other way very fast.

    Kirsty’s homemade Christmas

I was told to calm down too, my expletive of ‘Nooooooooooo’ didn’t go down well at full volume. 🙈 Agree about the repair shop, thoroughly enjoy that programme. Craftsmanship personified.

    Kirsty’s homemade Christmas

Channel 4 Thursday 10th 2020 at 5pm. It’s on catchup on all sources of catchup. Look for episode nine, well worth a view. I won’t do a spoiler and say who won, but the cardboard stage did look good for young children to have fun with.

    Shove ha'penny board?

The World Shove HaPenny competition was held in Shepton Mallet in Somerset for several years. There is a thriving Shove league in the district. (Well, was till this year of the little c) we ran a B&B at the time and had guests from all over Europe staying for the comp as we were ideally placed...

    Kirsty’s homemade Christmas

In this case it was crafting members of public doing their ‘thing’. The shots were several seconds of quite frightening light-sabre like gouging under constant instruction. nearest hand was 12” from the rest. 😳

Workshop layout - opinions / expertise

my missus reckons that I’m ‘special’ and they broke the mould when I was made, thankfully! 😳😳

    Kirsty’s homemade Christmas

Well, did anyone see Kirsty get instruction in using a roughing gouge from ‘expert’ Ruth. Please, please don’t try using a roughing (or any other) gouge holding it with two hands on the handle, and no support anywhere near the rest. Kirsty even drifted off the left hand end and all but dove the...

A question of construction and materials.

The cladding I used, in my case for compliance with ‘predominantly non combustible’ clause, was HardiPlank, a cement fibre board cladding system that as DBT85 says is all but maintenance free and is available in 21 colours. Certainly no painting for 15 years+. Three times the cost of timber...

    Workshop flooring

I have 50mm kingspan with 22mm P5 chipboard floating floor. I have a Jet 3520 lathe on it. The lathe weighs 350kg with the stand and wood stored on the integral shelf. No movement or vibration at all when in use. In my last workshop which had a suspended wood floor on joists I had to pour a 1.5...
