3 jaw scroll chuck - how to dismantle

I think it's a write off :( Soaked overnight then kept going backwards and forwards until if moved a bit more and then suddenly it free'd but quite rough. Taking the jaws out I find the jaws are damaged. Something fell out and disappeared under the bench, I suspect it was a bit of tooth. Now...

3 jaw scroll chuck - how to dismantle

I've been given a little vintage 80mm 3 jaw scroll chuck for my simat 101 lathe. It's made by a company called cushman, however, I can't open the jaws. The knurled ring moves about a sixteenth of a turn and I can see the jaws start to open but then it stops, and it's a definite stop as if it's...

How to benefit from smart meters?

That's more down to your energy supplier than the smart meter. I'm with Octopus and after contacting support the correct tariff / cost is downloaded to the meter, took less than 2 hours for me. The issue is that many suppliers don't download the updated tariff when it changes, so the meter and...

How to benefit from smart meters?

Apart from giving you an insight into how you are using your electricity and what your background usage is, they don't offer much really for a normal household. However, they are a stepping stone for the future. Firstly they can monitor how much electricity you are exporting and secondly they...

    Restoring Ercol Daybed

I have successfully used screwfix no nonsense paint stripper on Ercol furniture, being water based it does raise the grain somewhat but that is easily cleaned up. I painted a thick coat on and then covered with cling film to stop it drying out, after an hour I scraped it all off, wiped it down...

    Me? Indecisive? I'm not sure!

Also consider the Dewalt DCD796, slightly more powerful than the 709 but nice and compact which is useful.

    Getting rid of sawdust

I use it as mulch, if you can mix it with grass cuttings then it rots down surprising quickly. Failing that I use my washing machine brasier.

Axminster Product Reviews have they started to moderate?

I always thought Axminster reviews were honest and unmoderated. However, a recent review I left, still giving a product 4 out 5 stars has been moderated as I pointed out a couple of areas that I thought someone should consider before purchasing. Have they always moderated and I've just never...

    Record cl lathes

I have a older blue series CL3 and when you get the misaligned centres it's nearly always due the stand. There is a degree of twist in the 2 bar system and the stand supplied by record isn't the most rigid. So make sure the stand is perfectly level and square and then the centres will align.

Sabre 350 Bandsaw Stand - Worth having?

That solution eventually dawned on me too but I can't face laying the bandsaw back on the floor to adjust the stand size, I found the levelling knob can easily be removed which then allows the door to clear. Only takes 20 seconds to screw it back on when I need to move it. Making the stand 2...

Record Sabre 350 and greenwood cutting

Tim, Adjusting the guides is easy and I'm sure once you get use to where you can see the blade it will become easier, the smaller the blade the harder it seems to be to view the blade. Yup, the shavings are exactly the same as when cutting down the grain with a chainsaw, just much finer...

Record Sabre 350 and greenwood cutting

Managed to do a few cuts today using a Tuffsaws Sabre Cut 1/2 blade at 3 tpi. I had absolutely no problems cutting the Ash logs at the full 285mm capacity, there was no motor slowdown just lots of dust. The wood is fairly wet only felled 2 weeks ago but of course is not as hard as other woods...

sharpening / ProEdge / Trizact question

I have exactly the same issues as you, I now only use the ProEdge for the primary bevel on chisels and plane irons, then revert to diamond plate and honing for the secondary. I also had issues with the ProEdge not producing a flat grind on planes, never did get a decent answer from Robert Sorby...
