Using a bandsaw without rubber /polyurethane over the wheel?

I would have thought that’s a complete no no. Surely the tension of the blade will flatten the set of the teeth so you’ll end up with a blade that has no clearance and will then jam. Not sure about metal cutting blades though.

    Danish oil finishing advice

I also saw this video and tried wet sanding using Danish oil as the lubricant on a small box using 500 grit wet and dry and it worked well although a bit messy and wasteful of the oil. Hard to say if the finish was any better than dry sanding though, although when doing car body work you always...

Edited - Which track saw (rather than which circular saw)?

I’d look at the LIDL parkside tracksaw for £65. This will do everything you’ve asked for and more, it’s surprisingly good for the money. There’re numerous reviews on this site plus a good YouTube review from Peter Millard. I bought mind with the intention of upgrading once I’d discovered how I...

    Record BS350 dimensions

I’m trying to work out whether I can get a Record BS350 into my hatchback with the back seats down. Could some kind owner measure how tall the bandsaw is with the stand removed? I’m also presuming that with the table and stand off it’s an easy 2 man lift into a car, unless someone knows better...

    Axminster AC1950B Bandsaw Review

I needed to replace my old Dewalt 3 wheel bandsaw as it was very limited and well worn. I looked around for a used one for a several months but without travelling 100's of miles nothing came up in sunny Norfolk so I decided to take a punt on the Axminster AC1950B as it seemed to be getting good...

    Makita DRT50ZX4 or Makita DRT50ZJ

Once I’d seen first hand how poor much of the Imported parts are I stopped buying anything electrical from eBay and Amazon unless it’s from a proper seller, ie. Axminster, FFX etc. I have dismantled a copied battery pack and although it looked ok and had branded Samsung batteries, the air path...

    Makita DRT50ZX4 or Makita DRT50ZJ

Personally I still don’t think it’s worth the risk. I’ve seen first hand the issues that “copy” parts like lightbulbs, power supplies and batteries from eBay cause. Indeed, the company I retired from had eBay sellers closed down for the so called CE approved items that were not only a death trap...

    Makita DRT50ZX4 or Makita DRT50ZJ

I must admit that I’ve always stuck to the genuine Makita batteries, if you keep an eye out on various sales you can get the 5Ah ones for just under £50. There are so many horror stories of lithium ion batteries catching on fire that I don’t think it’s worth the risk. Richard

    Fenland Black Oak Project

Plus the special joins they are going to use. Will look forward to seeing this at Ely Cathedral if they get enough funding to complete it.

    Fenland Black Oak Project

I have been watching the progress of this project, thought others may find it interesting? Brings a smile to my face when a piece of wood this old is still usable. Being local I hope the final table is displayed nearby. https://www.thefenlandblackoakproject.co.uk/

    Axminster TS250 Blade tilt limitation

Sam, I couldn’t find the mods you mentioned on YouTube so if you can post a link that would be interesting. The issue I have with the big mouth under cabinet collection is that it doesn’t stop the dust collecting on the two main screw threads which eventually gum up and then it’s a pain to...

    Axminster TS250 Blade tilt limitation

Thanks for the reply, I have lost the hose and have a collector underneath but the flange where the hose use to connect still hits the frame. As a quick fix I took a pair of pliers to it.....I just can’t believe I didn’t have this issue at the start. Richard

    Axminster TS250 Blade tilt limitation

I went to make some 45 degree cuts today but couldn’t get past 35 degrees. Puzzled as I know I have cut bevels before I started to remove the dust box I fitted underneath when I found that raising the blade allowed the 45 degrees to be achieved. Having now had a look inside the blade guard hose...

Over cladding a barn. Viable or stupid idea?

I would also take advice on the fire implications, that’s a very thick combustible cladding you would then have...

    Cottage Floor Loading Question

Thanks W2S, there are some herringbone struts at the middle of the joists. I’ve since had 4 people up there gently bobbing up and down together and there’s absolutely no sign of any movement. I’ll keep an eye on it.... Richard

    Cottage Floor Loading Question

Thanks for all the responses. I’m probably worrying unnecessary but I always like to be sure on these older properties that didn’t follow any building regs but relied on the experience of the builder, especially as I understand mine was built by the local farm labourers for them to live in...

    Cottage Floor Loading Question

You’re correct the joists have notches cut for 15mm pipe and cable runs so not perfect. 100% sure of the joist direction. My lack of understanding of structural design in point loads, failure etc is why I’ve asked, I’m an electronic engineer so much happier in the land of amps/volts/circuits...

    Cottage Floor Loading Question

We live in a victorian cottage which has over the years had various modifications. One of the bedrooms has had an en-suite added in the corner and we wanted to add a wardrobe into the other corner but I think this would exceed the floor loading, can anyone confirm my calculations? I'm presuming...
