    3 in 1 sack barrows

Has anyone had any experience of these 3 in 1 sack barrows. Having managed for years without anything except a wheelbarrow I decided I need to get some sort of general purpose trolley to move stuff around both the workshop and garden to save my back... Looking on screwfix you can get a standard...

For a Mac-ophile, are there any real advantages of an iPhone

Android is great for 2 years and then most phones stop getting security updates, Apple supports all it’s phones for 5 years or more, this is a very big plus point. From my experience of apple it’s products just work and carry on working. Our household is now Apple based and my hassle in turns of...

    Security camera(s) under £300

I have deployed cameras from Hikvision. You can put an sd card in each one and use them standalone, buy a hikvision recorder or connect them to a NAS, which is how I do it. Hikvision is probably one of the leading suppliers of quality cctv cameras. Have a look at https://www.use-ip.co.uk/, they...

    Is this chisel worth saving?

I’ve cleaned and sharpened them all. The blued chisel clean up OK as well although it took sometime to get the tip flat. I’ll see how long it maintains its edge before doing anything else. I’ll try and repair the handle as suggested once I find a bit of suitable wood. I have a nice chisel...

    Is this chisel worth saving?

Thanks everyone for the info, I definitely want to keep them. My Dad got them when he started his apprenticeship, apparently the company paid for them and then the money was taken out of his wages each week. I have some Ultex diamond plates so will use them to flatten and reprofile. It’s a...

    Is this chisel worth saving?

I’ve found some of my Dad’s chisels from the 1950’s in the back of his shed. Four are Robert Sorby and one is a Marples. I’ve started to regrind them but noticed one is blue so it must have been overheated, is this now junk or will it be ok? Thanks Richard

    Record DX4000 Silence Cabinet

It’s a standard Hammond polycarbonate enclosure, various sizes available. I removed the electronics from the 2 Masterplug socket switches (they had 3 point security screws but then so do I). Cut the wires from where they attached to the 3 pin sockets. I then placed the 2 electronic switch boards...

    Record DX4000 Silence Cabinet

The next problem to solve was being able to switch the motors individually when the vacuum is inside the cabinet. My solution involves mains wiring so please do not attempt this unless you know what you are doing. (hammer) My solution was to buy a pair of remote switches from Wickes for £10...

    Record DX4000 Silence Cabinet

Thanks everyone for all the information. My baffles were MDF but I'll see if I can add some more and cover the surfaces with carpet where I can. The shelf slides in so I can't add anything to the top if that makes sense which I realise is not ideal. There's no foam on the bottom as I need to...

    Record DX4000 Silence Cabinet

Added some baffles which has taken another 2dBA off the total. I don’t think I could make it much quieter without making the cabinet thicker but it’s a huge improvement on the bare unit. The only issue I have left is extending the 100mm port out the front. I bought a hose coupler from Axminster...

    Record DX4000 Silence Cabinet

I was a bit concerned about over heating which is why I left the outlet path as smooth as possible. However, I'll try some options to see how well they work...

Advice needed on valuing this workbench

I seem to regularly get messages from eBay offering max £1 fee sale weekends, where anything listed during that time will have a fixed sale cost of £1. If fact I have one at the moment which runs out tonight. Not sure how widespread these are but may help. Richard

    Record DX4000 Silence Cabinet

The record DX4000 does a fair job as a workshop dust extractor but it's very very loud. I finally had enough and made a silence cabinet which works very well but it's hard to communicate how much difference it makes. I did take some dBA readings during the build but I'm not sure how useful they...

    Planning for shed/workshop in AONB

I’ve always found our planning dept. in Norfolk to be very helpful and friendly. When I wanted to build a new garage which was bigger than the house (so I could convert the older double garage into a workshop:)) they gave advice on the sort of information the planning committee would need to...

    Baksaver wheelbarrow

How do you find pushing it through rough terrain or uneven surfaces? I bought my wife a 4 wheel trolley and she finds it much harder to pull / push than a single wheel barrow, hence it never gets used. Richard

Axminster 1950B vs Record Power BS250?

Both saws work within their limits, if your application fits within those limits then you’ll be happy. However, I think the 1950 has been cheapened too much which means it will need setting up every time you change the cut height and/or change the blade tension. I agree with Mike though, a...

Axminster 1950B vs Record Power BS250?

I happen to be on holiday this week and drove through Axminster today so persuaded my partner to look round the town whilst I popped into the Axminster store. I had a good look at all the craft bandsaws and also the AT2552B trade bandsaw which is a direct competitor to the Record Sabre 350 which...

    Axminster AC1950B Bandsaw Review

I’m still not convinced by these ceramic guides. Bearings can be bought today and anytime in the future from many suppliers. Will you be able to get a Laguna guide in 10 years? Hopefully they are designed so at least you could swap out for a piece of hardwood if not. I guess time will tell.
