    About to take the plunge.

I had a similar problem plus the guides were not parallel, after contacting record and getting some replacement parts it transformed the guides. I’m now quite happy that the guides do a good job. I’ve found adjusting the top side guides whilst the blade is running is a good way to get the best...

    About to take the plunge.

There’s a 2.5 year old BS350 on eBay in Exeter which may be of interest, should go within your budget....

    About to take the plunge.

I bought a used BS300E from this forum and I’m generally very pleased with it, I wanted a BS350 but nothing came up used but so far this has fitted the bill. Even though I’m not the first owner record power have been great, replacing items that were not manufactured properly. For instance the...

    Tidying up cables

That’s not 100% correct. The xDSL cable from the router to the filter/faceplate is not twisted pair and is susceptible to interference, especially from switched mode power supplies. So try and route this separately from other cables. The WiFi can be blocked / reflected by anything metal so again...

    Tent for working

I would recommend these as a semi temporary working space. I’ve seen these left up for 10 years and still in good order. Depending on security you could leave the tools setup over the summer and pack everything down in the winter. They also now do a motorcycle sized version. Clarke Garage

What do you use compressed air blower in your workshop for?

I take use it to clean filters from both my vacuum and air cleaner. I always do this outside and make sure I’m up wind but still wear a mask. I find this very effective.

    Workshop heater to recommend ?

Would these work using domestic kerosene ie normal heating oil? Having a separate diesel tank would be a pain and expensive but taking a feed off the oil tank at 50p litre would be quite attractive. Edit: just read the links and yes the Chinese versions will run on kerosene but the Russian...

    Lidl

I believe it is illegal to sell a product in the U.K. without a 3 pin plug. If an adaptor is provided then it must include a fuse and require a tool to remove. I’m surprised LIDL would do this but then Amazon does it all the time, standards are dropping....

    Stumped on surface planer

I sympathise with your position. I too am looking for a planer thicknesser and have a similar budget. I’ve driven miles to look at used units only to find they are nothing like described and the owner unwilling to reduce the price, which means I only now only look at localish units. However...

    Lamp

It is the manufacturers responsibility to check that what they are supplying meets the necessary standards to give it a CE approval. If you are the manufacturer then the fact that you’re asking a question here means you would be considered as “not competent” to assess the design for a CE...

    Gedge's Pattern Auger bit.

I might have known I’d find a possible ancestor only to find he was passing other people’s ideas off as his own, albeit legally.... Richard

    Gedge's Pattern Auger bit.

Slightly off topic but I’m intrigued by the naming as my surname is Gedge and I’ve never heard of the Gedge pattern bits. So I’ll watch with interest... Richard Ps. The only other claim to fame of the Gedge name is “The Gedge” which was a monster in He-Man!

    Bandsaw -Hammer N2-35

Looks like a Record BS350 clone, except it has alloy wheels (worse), same guides, different legs. More expensive! I’d go for the Sabre 350 at the same price. https://uk.feldershop.com/en/Sawing/Machines/bandsaw-Hammer-N2-35.html

Have I gone over the top?

I was dropped in it last year, “how’s the Christmas tree coming along I asked you to make“, err, what Christmas tree is that? The one to represent the parish council at the local church! How long have I got, till tomorrow morning, but it’s lunchtime, I’ve only got an afternoon.... So here’s a...

    Peltier fan

I doubt you’ll find a COTS device to do that as the main application is for wood burners. However, there are Peltier devices that work better at lower temperatures, the key is the cross junction temperature which dictates the amount of Volts/Amps you can extract. You’ll need to use a large heat...

    Painting plasterboard.

I just used brown gummed paper parcel tape, the type that you need to wet to activate the glue. This sticks onto the paper plasterboard surface well and takes paint, I didn’t see any point in going any further. Search on eBay, £5ish for 200m. Richard

    Axminster TS250-2 modifications.

No such thing as criticism just incorrect observation :D I just undo the clamps and it swings up and out of the way, I need to do this for the 45 degree cuts but I’d like to sort out a wider version as I hate using the saw without a guard, but like riding in a car without your seatbelt on! Fair...
