    63mm Dust Extractor???

I have a DX4000, you have to select the right type of hose. I bought a 38mm x 5m vacuum hose for a Numatic Cleaner. This is designed for high vacuum and doesn’t compress. I made the adaptor to connect to 100mm as the commercial offering is quite flimsy When I first got the DX I was playing...

Back Draft Shutters - does a good design exist?

It means it’s inserted into the ducting so there is no 240v over the bath/shower. Otherwise the fan has to be low voltage to meet building regs. E.g.

Back Draft Shutters - does a good design exist?

So it does appear that there is no perfect design. The airflow fan looks like the best attempt if you can fit it, unfortunately 2 of my fans are inline as they are over a shower.. I’ve also now been pointed towards these...

Back Draft Shutters - does a good design exist?

They’re so cheap I’ll give them a go and I prefer going up a ladder than crawling round in the loft, so double win. Thanks.

Back Draft Shutters - does a good design exist?

My parents had one of these over the vent that was installed when a gas fire was fitted, it was quiet but not very effective at stoping the draft. However, I’m thinking I’d rather have a draft than flap, flap, flap....

Back Draft Shutters - does a good design exist?

Mmm, hadn’t thought of an actuator driven one. Not sure if I would trust a cheap one from aliexpress though, I’d want to see a CE certificate. I will explore this idea further . Thanks.

Back Draft Shutters - does a good design exist?

Our house has 360 unobstructed views which means we get the wind no matter what direction it’s blowing. We also have 3 vent outlets from bathroom, toilet and kitchen. I have yet to find a back draft shutter that works, is quiet and lasts for more than a few years. I started off with the 3...

    Tool shortages

This was out of stock for delivery over 6 weeks ago. Enquiring at the the local store indicated it was end of life but they had no idea if anything was going to replace it.

    How many teeth are enough?

From my experience (which is limited) I understand it’s a trade off between finish, speed and accuracy. If the TPI is large then there’s a risk of the blade not being able to clear the sawdust and then the blade will wander or bog down. If TPI is small (rule at least 3 teeth in the wood) then it...

    Induction motor tripping RCD

I’ve finally found the parts diagram and only one is shown. The belt turns fine by hand. I’ll strip it down and see if there are any insulation worn away or cracked. It’s done amazing duty so perhaps it’s time to stand down and buy a new one...

    Induction motor tripping RCD

Yes, it does the same on another circuit. I’ve got table saw, bandsaw, planer thicknesser (all induction) all on the same circuit without any issues so I’m sure the RCD is OK. I just wondered if there was a guide for testing out an induction motor to confirm it has failed before replacing it...

    Induction motor tripping RCD

My Draper bench sander now trips the RCD within a second of turning on. Can anyone point to a fault finding guide? I’ve checked the starter capacitor with a multimeter and there’s no DC path but of course I’m not checking it at 240v when it may be breaking down. Thanks Richard

Where do people buy their metal stock from?

Try and find a local metal fabricator, my experience is that they will sell small amounts at a fair price. Some will even let you rummage through their scrap bin and charge scrap prices. P+P charges for online orders is often excessive.

    Latest Vodafone rip-off

You need to haggle hard with BT. I’ve just renewed at £19.99 per month for unlimited Superfast broadband including line rental. I managed to get 500 minutes of free calls for another £4.99. So under £25 for both. I had to sign for 2 years but I was happy to at that price....

Recommendations for tracksaw and router upgrades

I have just done this for my parkside tracksaw. Bought some 300mm lengths of 12mm x 6mm bright steel strip. The sizes are nominal so used my belt sander to remove a fraction off and they are now a resistance fit in the tracks. I did tap the strips and put 4 grub screws in but they don’t do much...

    wifi aerial

Providing the connector is correct then you can use any antenna for 2.4ghz. Check the connector though as you may have one that screws on but there is no centre pin to connect (known as reverse sma). If you have any problems post a photo of the connector. Richard
