House and Contents Insurance including workshop

Thanks for the replies. I should point out that the 100k amount is just default level, I haven’t got 100k of tools, we’ll not yet! I’ll try those other companies.

House and Contents Insurance including workshop

It’s that time of year for me when I need to renew my house insurance. I have been with M&S for the last 3 years as they’re the only policy I’ve found so far that includes, as standard, a large cover for theft from outbuildings of £100k. This nicely covers my workshop but the price has been...

    artex asbestos testing advice

I have been through this at the beginning of the year. We live in a Victorian cottage that was renovated (ruined) in the 60s and has artex on some of the ceilings. The one in the bathroom was cracked and loose and wasn’t suitable for skimming. The headroom is minimal and none flat so boarding...

LED downlights - and why you might not want to fit them

A friend had a load fitted and was surprised when the electrician left him 6 spares. He’d sited exactly the same reason as you’ve found. However, he also pointed out that a new lamp of the same type will still appear slightly different when installed but at least the body matches. Richard

    Lightweight Router

I struggled to cut letters using my Dewalt 625 1/2 router because of the weight and size, but with a lightweight trim router then I found it much easier. I have the Makita Makita DRT50Z which is cordless and so easy to use, would recommend it. Here’s my last engraved letter project. Next will...

Planer Thicknesser Advice - Record Power/Metabo/Axminster

I have the Metabo, purchased from FFX during one of the eBay discount promotions for £470. I looked at the Record Power as well but didn’t think is was worth the extra money over the Metabo. As a planer I found the tables to be flat but do need a regular polish. The fence is poor and needs to...

Post a photo of the last thing you made

Wife wanted a sign for a garden in our village she is turning into a wild flower border. Found an old log, cut through at an angle using a hand saw. Planed flat and then used a hand held trimmer to engrave freehand following a paper template. Not sure how long it will last, that split looks...

    compound mitre saw advice

Bosch do make a 10 inch version of the glide saw but do not make a 240v version for U.K., no idea why? I would buy one if they did.

What's the difference between "Trade" and other paint?

I second this, have painted all my fascia with MSP, 10 years and still going strong. It’s also great not to have to faff around with undercoat, primer etc.

    Bandsaw Advice

 Well I hope I haven't put too many people off! It just really frustrated me that when I was cutting and wanted to add a bit more tension the guides went out of alignment. Perhaps I'm the only one who does this....

    Acrylic Bath Repair

During the fitting of our new bathroom we (notice the we*) have managed to drop a clamp into the new Carronite bath and put a dent/chip in the bottom, #£&@%. I have contacted the supplier who has suggested a repair company who charges £185 for the first chip. I can’t speak with them at the...

    Bandsaw Advice

I bought the Axminster AC1950B bandsaw and sent it back after a few weeks. Two reasons, one the upper guide moved as you adjusted the height and felt flimsy. I did manage to adjust and improve it but still not great. The other was the flex in the chassis as you adjusted the tension. I later had...

Looking for 'Flat Top teeth' blade for D/Walt 745

Search Amazon for Grooving Cutter Circular Saw Blade. There are some from CMT from £18 to £55 depending on the width. Not 250mm though, but not a problem for finger joints.
