    Record Lathe Banjo Question

Your bit of plywood between the rails is doing the same thing as the spring washer, I‘ll make the same for my tail stock if that starts jamming. Thanks.

    Record Lathe Banjo Question

👏 You hit the nail on the head, well you know what I mean. I cleaned up the groove so it was smooth, waxed everything and the nut slipped up and down easily but once assembled it jammed again. Watching closely exactly what you described happens, as soon as you try and slide, the nut goes at an...

    Record Lathe Banjo Question

Many thanks, if I do go down the new banjo route then I’ll send a PM, but I will try and get the current version working if I can. Thanks for the suggestions, I’ll have a clean up and polish today and see how it goes.

    Record Lathe Banjo Question

It‘s not the sliding on the bars side to side (i.e. left to right) but when you move backwards and forwards (I.e. in and out) when the nut needs to slide in its recess but it just hangs up, any shavings just make it worse. I will have another go at waxing though and try a cover to keep the...

    Record Lathe Banjo Question

My Record CL3 lathe banjo is adjusted by a lever underneath. To move backwards and forwards a nut slides over the casting in a slight depression. The problem is that despite cleaning and lubricating it gets stuck and jammed with shavings and I have to stop the lathe to adjust which is already...

    Workshop flooring

It will depend on how the raised floor is constructed. You can make a raised floor that is stable for machinery but it’s not usual in a domestic setting. There’s been a lot of issues with raised block and beam floors being used in new houses where the washing machine has ended up at resonance...

    Axminster TS250-2 modifications.

I‘m not in a position to look at my saw until the weekend. I can say though that my saw does get very dusty inside. I ended up removing some of my added cabinet sealing as I found a good airflow through from top to bottom was most effective to remove the dust. I certainly don’t have any...

    Axminster TS250-2 modifications.

Welcome Stephen, My ts250 only has a should round the blade which is then connected to the dust port. It doesn’t work very well though.... edit: part 20 in the manual. https://www.axminstertools.com/media/downloads/508211_manual.pdf

    Round folding table

Another option for the joint is to to bevel the table underneath. I’ve attached a picture of our Ercol table which does this. The only downside I can see is that the hinge is visible when the flap is down but personally I think it looks neater.

    Faulty zips on Dickies overalls

I’ve just sent some feedback to [email protected] . A few more requests for an improved zip can’t do any harm.

    Faulty zips on Dickies overalls

Same problem here. I love the Dickies Redhawk as they fit me, but the zip fails every time. I’ve tried others but I find them short in the arms. I was going to try their press stud overalls but they don’t sell them in the same sizes! Why can’t they use a nylon zip, they seem to be much more...

    Axminster Precision Chuck Runout

I found the manual online for this chuck, thought it may be of use to others.

    Axminster Precision Chuck Runout

I think it may be a super precision after all. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Axminster-Super-Precision-Chuck-Backplate/dp/B011S5TREK

    Axminster Precision Chuck Runout

Too be honest I only know that it was made in England and has an Axminster badge. Someone on another thread identified it as a super precision but it may not be. There is a raised spigot on the back but it’s quite small compared to many.

I went to see my podiatrist today

    Or an angle grinder!

Any ideas on the background of this old ruler?

Could this have been fixed to a bench where they measure things to be sold like a haberdashery? I’ll have 2.5yards of fabric please!

Richard Findley - Live Conkers Demo

Based on Richard‘s demo here’s my first ever turning project:) It has a couple of small catches and I struggled to get a smooth cut in places, particularly the coves, but the tenon fits the mortise so not all bad. A future suggestion would be to make the template available as a download. I...

    Axminster Precision Chuck Runout

I can confirm the problem is now fixed. I can now take something out of the chuck and put it back in again with it still running true. Vibration has also reduced slightly. As a beginner I have been taking things out of the chuck to have a look but I can see it wouldn’t be an issue if you turn...

    Axminster Precision Chuck Runout

Thanks very much for the info and the offer of the back plate. I‘m hoping that I have now fixed mine but I’ll PM you if I need it. I took my lathe spindle and the chuck over to my model engineer friend today. He spun it up on his Harrison lathe and confirmed that the backplate was in error, by...

    Axminster Precision Chuck Runout

No idea, I haven’t used the Chuck before and unfortunately the previous owner is no longer with us.
