POR15 Metal Prep - Phosphoric Acid by another name?

Great find, so as you say it's basically 10-12% phosphoric acid with the key ingredient 2-5% zinc phosphate. I wonder if the ranges protect their exact formula or just aren't critical?

POR15 Metal Prep - Phosphoric Acid by another name?

I've used POR15 metal prep quite successfully before painting both new and old metal and need to buy some more. If you haven't come across it before Por15 metal prep. It is the ultimate in the relentless fight against rust. It not only dissolves away the rust it also etch primes the clean...

    Record Power Focus Weekend

I think this is a Yandles arranged weekend rather than an official one from Record Power so any discounts will be down to Yandles. At the official Record Power shows there was usually a worthwhile discount or bundle to be had. Give them a ring and ask if there'll be any discounts on bandsaws if...

    Thread on bicycle pump

Useful tables of most threads here. Thread Identification Looking at the British table 1/2 inch BSF is close at 12.7mm dia and pitch of 1.59mm?

    What a waste!

Have a look at Sun Sails as well, may be able to find one big enough to cut down, many are triangular but I bought a square one quite reasonably.

Making a steel box using minimal tools

I've made a few metal boxes for various purposes so I though I would share a process that allows you to make a nice box using only an angle grinder, a hot air gun or blow torch and a drill. In fact you can do without the hot air gun and blow torch if you don't have one. This box is to house a...

For Sale Old woodworking lathe - project

Looks like this Union Lathe, nice.

Good condition CL3 lathe what should I be paying?

If it comes with the stand then yes otherwise perhaps a bit on the high side depending on what the miscellaneous items are. I have a CL3 and keep an eye out on eBay for extra bits, have seen the basic lathe sell for as little as £150 ish for just the lathe with no stand or accessories.

    Dulux Trade Colour Sensor

I suspect Dulux has re-badged this sensor. Nix Colour Sensor Buying the Nix sensor has the advantage that it will match to many manufacturers rather than Dulux Specific. Only questions is which sensor is Dulux using….the Mini 2 or Pro 2? Edit: The Dulux is probably the Mini 2 which at £79.99...

    Dulux Trade Colour Sensor

That‘s concerning as the iPhone has a very good colour matched screen, so I suspect if the screen shows it as off then it is off. Please report back from the colour chart though.

    Dulux Trade Colour Sensor

I’ve used it a couple of times and not been impressed. I needed to match some paint after knocking through a new door, took a large sliver of the existing paint to scan and match against. All I can say is that it was similar but no where near matched. In the end I painted the whole wall to the...

    Lets talk hedge trimmers.

Be cautious about the weight, I.e. try it. I have a Makita 2 stroke pole trimmer and it’s excellent, the blades are well tempered and cuts extremely cleanly. However, it’s top heavy and you definitely need your Weetabix to use it for any length of time.

    Yet another wood identification

An update, after having a discussion with the Landscape gardener he said it was definitely from the Prunus family and if he had to go further, a type of Gauge. For info here’s a bit planed up. I particularly liked the shavings, I almost convinced someone I’d dropped a bag of Smokey Bacon Frazels.

    Water pistol recommendations

I use one of these “Water Blaster XLR”. Trouble with the pump up water pistols is that by the time you’ve pumped them up the offender has legged it. This you just need a bucket of water, one draw and you’re full. I can hit things at 15m provided it’s not windy.

Post a photo of the last thing you made

Had several off cuts of the thin ply left so fabricated a similar holder for the table saw. Just used the spare strips of the ply as spacers…whereas on the bandsaw holder I used the same strips on edge…

    Record lathe belt jumping

If Paul’s checks are all OK also check that the shafts are parallel to each other and if you have a dial gauge check for runout. Also check for play in the bearings.

    Turning oval knobs/handles

I have contacted them but not heard anything so far. I have since found someone on eBay selling spares made of Beech. Trouble is even if I could get the staining right to match I think they’ll still look very different? Perhaps a fallback option.

    Turning oval knobs/handles

I was only jesting but I do have got a copy of the book you mentioned on the way as I‘m intrigued by the concept. I’ve looked carefully at the knobs and I can’t work out whether it’s end grain or not as some of the Elm does have a grain that looks very much like end grain. I can’t believe...

Bandsaw Blade Holder Finally had enough of sorting blades out when they get tangled after sitting in a drawer. Probably not good for the blades either. The little trough in the bottom made handy bin for the vacuum accessories.

    Turning oval knobs/handles

Sounds like it needs the cobwebs blown off by making a couple of knobs.;) Yes I can see that, I’m hoping to have a go today, once I’ve cleared my todo list… I’m also thinking that perhaps smoothing the edges of the existing ones may disguise the damage enough to look OK. On trying to remove...
